Mt. Olive congregation celebrates new building

By John Howell
Members of Mt. Olive M. B. Church celebrated the completion of a new building Sunday with a ribbon cutting in front of the recently-completed church at 5419 Curtis Road.

Sunday’s move was both symbolic and literal as about 100 church members and friends gathered at the old building at 2229 Curtis Road, then drove as a body for the ribbon cutting on the front porch of the new building.

“Just remember, we’re committed to the body above the building, Rev. Jerome Battle said as members gathered outside the front door.

Cora B. Barksdale held with scissors with Rev. Battle for the symbolic cutting of a large red ribbon. Then members filed in to take their places in the new pews as music beckoned from inside.

Mt. Olive M. B. Church is celebrating its 88th year, having been founded in 1926, Rev. Battle said.
