A young man stood next to his mother as he faced felony charges during Batesville Municipal Court.

Devin D. Jones, 109 East Railroad, Byhalia, was charged with aggravated domestic violence and sexual battery against a young woman while in the Job Corps program.

Jones’ bail was $100,000.

Judge Bill McKenzie explained the case would be heard in Circuit Court.

“Do you plan on getting a lawyer?” McKenzie asked Jones’ mother.

“Yes,” she replied.

The judge put the case on hold for two weeks to give her time to find a lawyer.

Robert Georgia, 1115 S Saint Paul, Kilmichael, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault against Nicholas Pickering while at Finch Henry Job Corps.

“I was breaking the fight up,” Georgia said.

A trial was set for February 26.

Devonta Roby, 2242 Attala Rd., Sallis, paid fines of $313 in full prior to court for simple assault against Nicholas Pickering.

A Job Corps representative told the judge that Pickering and Roby were no longer in the program.

Shannon Earby, 11 Ellzey Rd., Sardis, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting. He also had old fines of $2,141 that have been due since May 2009. He told the judge he would sell a truck to pay his fines.

The judge gave him 30 days to have the fines paid in full or he will serve time in jail.
Stephanie Elliott, 10614-D Eureka Rd., Courtland, was fined $1,539 for DUI, no proof of insurance and improper equipment.

Codie Lauren Jones, 7150 Country Oaks, Southaven, was found guilty in her absence for DUI-refusal, public profanity and no proof of inusrance.

Rodney L. Harris, 221-B Henry Harris Rd., Courtland, was found not guilty of trespassing after the affiant, Mike Evans, failed to appear to prosecute.
