E.W. Atkinson

E.W. Atkinson, 84, died December 17, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Memphis.  Services were held Thursday at Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery in Como.

 The family requests memorials be sent to John Bramlett Ministries, Independent Presbyterian Church, or the Memphis Union or Calvary Rescue Missions.

Donna Carol Stampley

COMO –  Donna Carol Stampley, 43, died Thursday, December 13, 2012, at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia.

Services were held Sunday, December 16, at Senatobia Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 Stampley was a Ring Steward for the American Quarter Horse Association; 4-H volunteer, member of the Panola County Cattleman’s Association, member of Bryant Lane Cowboy Church, school crossing guard for Senatobia City Schools, and a volunteer for Heart’s Desire Therapeutic Riding Club.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Robbie Spence IV.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Labarre Stampley of Como; one daughter, Marie Spence of Nashville; one son, Tyler Labarre Stampley of Como; her mother, Carolyn Hand Hall of Horn Lake and her father Elbert William Hall, Jr. of Como; one sister, Debbie Barrett of Horn Lake; and one brother, Danny Hall of Como.

John Arthur Weatherall

SARDIS — John Arthur Weatherall, 63, died December 15, 2012.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home in Sardis. Visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery.

Survivors include: one son, Lewis Gardner of Chicago; three sisters, Mary Tucker of Chicago, Jessie Robertson  and Minnie J. Jones, both of Sardis.

Vera Cook Whitworth

Vera Cook Whitworth, 75, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Raymond Aven officiating. Interment will follow in Curtis Union Cemetery.  Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Whitworth was born on August 11, 1937 in Sarah, to Homer Lee & Ida Mae Walters Cook. She was a homemaker and a member of Locke Station Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Linda G. White of Sardis, Carol Cook of Marks and Debra Goodwin of Courtland; two sons, Tim Whitworth and Danny Whitworth, both of Batesville; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carlyle Whitworth and one daughter, Lisa Ann Whitworth.

Tommy Lee Woods

MENA, Ark.–Tommy Lee Woods, age 68, of Mena, passed away December 13, 2012 in Fayetteville, Ark.

He was born November 4, 1944 in Batesville to the late Tommy Frank Woods and the late Dorothy Alberta Richardson Woods.

Woods served in the United States Navy on the USS Midway. He was a professional truck driver and owned his own business.

He was a member of the AARP, Arkansas Game and Fish Lifetime member, Farm Bureau, American Trucking Association, the First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mena Elks Lodge and the Ouachita Country Club.

He is survived by two sons, Tommy Lee Woods, Jr. of Cove, Ark. and Timothy Shane Woods of Mena, Ark.; a daughter, Cynthia R.Conatser of Hatfield, Ark.; a brother, Billy Ray Woods of Marks; three sisters, Frances Carroll of Pontotoc, Alice Sossaman of Coffeeville and Dorothy Rayburn of Sardis; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Lou Woods; and a brother, Albert Lee Woods.

Funeral services will be today at 10 a.m. in the Beasley-Wood Chapel in Mena with interment following in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, Ark.
