Oscar Hiram Billingsley


BATESVILLE – Oscar Hiram Billingsley, 80, widower of Agnes Sorek Billingsley, died Sunday September 2, 2012 in Memphis.

Services were held Wednesday, September 5, with full military honors at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Lee Graham officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Billingsley was born on January 7, 1932, to Robert and Helen Walker Billingsley in Wheeler. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Tech. Sgt., having served during the Vietnam era. After his years of service with the Air Force he began working for the Mississippi Highway Department, later named MS Dept. of Transportation, where he began working on the survey crew in the Project Office. After 22 years with the Hwy. Dept, he retired as an Engineer Technician Certified, Senior. He was a Master Mason in the Walton Lodge No. 423 in Walton, Indiana, and later joined the Panola Mason Lodge #66. He served as a Mason for over 51 years. Mr. Billingsley was a member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church, in Batesville.

Survivors include his daughter, Mellie M. Billingsley of Vicksburg and his sister, LeeDell Billingsley Dowdle of Senatobia.


Brenda Louise Davis


BATESVILLE – Brenda Louise Davis, 62, wife of Kem Davis, died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at her residence.

Services were held Monday, September 3, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Dr. David Ball and Mr. Michael Bates officiated.

Davis was born April 30, 1950, in Charleston to David and Mildred Little Guthrie. She was a former cotton broker and bookkeeper for Yocona Gin. Davis was of the Baptist faith.    She was preceded in death by two sons, Lee Hanks Holland and Kem Victor Davis, Jr.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Kem Davis of Batesville; her daughter, Karon Lee Reed of Memphis; her son, Brent Samual Davis of Batesville; her mother, Mildred Little Guthrie of Batesville; three sisters, Tina Guthrie Cheek of Kosciusko, Ethel Guthrie Donovan of Collierville, Tenn., and Millie Guthrie May of Coldwater; two brothers, David Guthrie of Oakland and Steven Guthrie of Sardis and three grandchildren.

Cecil E. Gipson

BATESVILLE – Cecil E. Gipson, died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Bartlett, Tenn. She was age 82.

Services were held Wednesday, September 5, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Northridge-Woodhaven Cemetery in Millington, Tenn. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Gipson was born April 11, 1930, in Memphis to the late Norman S. and Hattie L. Montgomery Rhew. After 38 years of service, she retired from Sears and Roebuck as a sales associate. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Pope and had taught Sunday school for over 60 years throughout her life.

She was was preceded in death by her first husband, William N. Maroon, Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph M. Gipson of Oxford; one daughter, Constance M. Kellum of Bartlett, Tenn.; one son, William N. “Buddy” Maroon Jr. of Memphis and one grandchild.

Ranardo Tez Chartez Henderson

ENID – Ranardo Tez Chartez Henderson, 26, died Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday, September 8, at 11 a.m. at Persimmon Hill  M.B. Church with interment at the church cemetery in Enid.  Pastor Clarence Rankins will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Henderson was born September 28, 1985, in Charleston to Ray Charles Thomas and Margaret Henderson.  

Survivors include his mother, Margaret Henderson of Enid; his father, Ray Charles Thomas of Enid; his grandmother, Barbara Henderson of Enid; two sisters, Quatesia Henderson of Charleston and JaQudra Carter of Enid and two brothers, Santana Henderson of Enid and Larico Henderson of Holcomb.

Paul Michael Pattridge

STEWART – Paul Michael “Mike” Pattridge, 61, formerly of Batesville, husband of Pearl Hardin Pattridge, died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville.

Graveside services were held Sunday at Grape Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Stewart.
Pattridge, born Feb. 18, 1951, in Denver, Colo., to the late Dr. Paul D. Pattridge and the late Emily Pattridge Allen, served in the U.S. Marines serving during the Vietnam War. A diesel mechanic he was also assistant fire chief of Simpson Fire Department.

Survivors along with his wife include: one daughter, Michelle Wilborn of Manford, Okla.; one step-daughter, Donna Green and her husband David of Stewart; Wayne Henning and his wife, Sheri, Doug Henning and his wife, Judy, all of Ackerman; a sister, Catherine Pattridge Cole of Batesville; two granddaughters, Mikala and Jordon Wilborn of Manford, Okla; three step-grandchildren, Kevin Philley and his wife Tracey of Vicksburg, Tabitha McKay and her husband Chase of Kilmichael, Dwayne Henning of Stewart and one great-granddaughter.

Evelyn Virginia Roberson McGehee

BATESVILLE – Evelyn Virginia Roberson McGehee, 81, widow of Joe S. McGehee, Sr., died Sunday, September, 2, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 7, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens in Charleston. Visitation will begin two hours prior to service at noon. Rev. Eugene Howell will be officiating the funeral service. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

McGehee was born June 7, 1931, in Batesville to the late Jake and Ivy James Roberson. She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church in Batesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, James Earl McGehee.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle McGehee Green of Batesville; two sons, Joe S. McGehee, Jr. of Pope and Jake R. McGehee of Batesville; two sisters, Jane Roberson Uleston and Irene Roberson Wolf, both of Charleston; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Travis Lee Richardson Jr.

Travis Lee Richardson Jr., died Friday, August 31, 2012, at the Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was 61.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, September 5, at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Barry Warren presided. Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Richardson was born on December 20, 1950, in Marks to Virginia Grace Rodgers and Travis L. Richardson, Sr. He worked as an appliance salesman and attended The Church of God.

He is preceded in death by his father, Travis L. Richardson Sr.

Survivors include his daughter, Tracey Lee Richardson of Cincinnati, Ohio; his mother, Virginia Grace Rodgers Richardson of Memphis; one sister, Wanda Richardson Durham of Cordova, Tenn., one brother, Ricky W. Richardson of Bartlett, Tenn.

Willie Webster

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Mr. Willie Webster, formerly of Sardis, died Monday, August 20, 2012, at his residence.  He was 65.

Services were held Saturday, September 1, at Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ in Senatobia with burial in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery.  Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Jone Orr of Chicago and Marie Kelly of Benton Harbor, Mich.; three sons, Tony Hawkins of Tupelo, Wendell Webster of Atlanta, Ga., and Martinas Webster of Milwaukee, Wis.; seven sisters, Earnestine Franklin, Laveren Cherry, Vanessia Franklin and Dianne Franklin, all of Chicago, ValJean Franklin of Aurora, Ill, Jan Delmonte of Bolin Brock, Ill. and Ardelia Myles of Maywood, Ill.; three brothers, Jessie Jr. Franklin of Chicago, Gregory Franklin of Atlanta, Ga. and Ellis Webster of Milwaukee, Wis.; 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
