Oscar Hiram Billingsley

Oscar Hiram Billingsley age 80, widower of Agnes Sorek Billingsley, died Sunday
September 2, 2012 in Memphis, TN.

A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5 at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 24016 Highway 6 East, Batesville, MS. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home on Wednesday, 9/5/12.

Evelyn Virginia Roberson MCGehee

Evelyn Virginia Roberson McGehee age 81 widow of Joe S. McGehee, Sr., died Sunday at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2012 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens in Charleston. Visitation will begin two hours prior to service at 12 noon. Reverend Eugene Howell will officiate the funeral service.

Mrs. McGehee was born June 7, 1931 in Batesville to the late Jake and Ivy James Roberson. She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church in Batesville.

She is survived by one daughter, Michelle McGehee Green of Batesville; two sons, Joe S. McGehhe, Jr. (Peggy) of Pope, Jake R. McGehee (Claudette) of Batesville; two sisters, Jane Roberson Uleston of Charleston, Irene Roberson Wolf of Charleston; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, James Earl McGehee and two brothers, Willis and Cecil.

Cecil E. Gipson

Mrs. Cecil E. Gipson, age 82, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Bartlett.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation beginning one prior to service at 10 a.m. Following the funeral service in Batesville, another visitation will be held at Munford Funeral Home – Millington Chapel, located at 7450 Raliegh-Millington Road, Millington, Tenn., from 2 – 3 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at 3:30 P.M. in Northridge-Woodhaven Cemetery in Millington, Tenn.

Mrs. Gipson was born April 11, 1930, in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Norman S. and Hattie L. Montgomery Rhew. After 38 years of service, Mrs. Cecil retired from Sears & Roebuck as a sales associate. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Pope, and had taught Sunday School for over 60 years throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph M. Gipson of Oxford; daughter, Constance M. Kellum of Bartlett; son, William N. “Buddy” Maroon, Jr. of Memphis and one grandchild.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Gipson was preceded in death by her first husband, William N. Maroon, Sr.

Brenda Louise Davis

Brenda Louise Davis, 62, wife of Kem Davis, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at her home in Batesville.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 3, 2012 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel . Interment followed in Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Dr. David Ball and Mr. Michael Bates  officiated.

Davis was born April 30, 1950 in Charleston to the late David Guthrie and Mildred Little Guthrie of Batesville. She was a former cotton broker and bookkeeper for Yocona Gin. Brenda was of the baptist faith.

Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband of 22 years, Kem Davis of Batesville; daughter, Karon Lee Reed of Memphis; son, Brent Samual Davis of Batesville;  three sisters, Tina Guthrie Cheek of Kosciusko, Ethel Guthrie Donovan of Collierville, Millie Guthrie May of Coldwater; two brothers, David Guthrieof Oakland, Steven Guthrie of Sardis; and three grandchildren.

Preceding Brenda in death were two sons, Lee Hanks Holland and Kem Victor Davis, Jr.

Travis Lee Richardson, Jr.

Travis Lee Richardson, Jr., age 61, died Friday August 31, 2012, at the Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Graveside Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 24017 Hwy 6 East, Batesville, with Rev. Barry Warren presiding. At the family’s request, no public visitation will be held prior to the service.

Travis was born on December 20, 1950, in Marks, to Virginia Grace Rodgers & Travis L. Richardson, Sr. He worked as an appliance salesman and attended The Church of God.

He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Lee Richardson of Cincinnati, mother, Virginia Grace Rodgers Richardson of Memphis,  sister, Wanda Richardson Durham of Cordova, brother, Ricky W. Richardson of Bartlett, and his aunt, Charolette Ruth Rodgers Waddell of Marks.

Gerone Jarvis Vance

SARDIS – Gerone Jarvis Vance, 58, died Tuesday, August 29, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi.

 Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Green M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial will be in Pleasant Green Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Vance was a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church and a factory worker

Survivors include: his wife, Bettie M. Vance; one daughter, LaTunnia Jackson of Batesville; one son, Jarvis Gerone Vance of Sardis; two sisters, Bobbie Smith and Irma Baker, both of Chicago; two brothers, Ricky Brown of Batesville and Sam Vance of Chicago and six grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Travis L. Richardson, Sr.
