Rosie Lee Darby Austin


COURTLAND – Rosie Lee Darby Austin, 83, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at her residence.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, July 8, at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Bethel Cemetery in Pope. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Austin was born to the late Edd Darby and the late Bertha Ellett Darby. She was a member of Willow Springs Assembly of God Church in Enid and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Austin; one daughter Ruby Burke Westmoreland; and one son Maurice Burke.

She is survived by three sons J. C. Burke Jr. of Enid, Lamar Burke of Memphis and Bryan Westmoreland of Senatobia; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ray Charles Cunningham


LAS VEGAS – Ray Charles Cunningham, formerly of Batesville and son of Auto and Margaret Middleton of Courtland, 56, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 in the North Vista Hospital in Las Vegas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel with minister Dameon Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be held during the service. Interment will follow in Springhill Asa Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Cunningham, born September 25, 1955 in Marks to Margaret Johnson Middleton of Courtland and the late Jessie Cunningham was a retired unit supply specialist and veteran of the U. S. Army.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife Julie Cunningham of Rock Island, Ill.; one daughter Summer Cunningham of Rock Island; three sons, Ray Cunningham and Zackery Cunningham, both of Rock Island and Bobby Ray Rudd of Batesville; eight sisters Patsy Middleton, Kathy Crump and Alice Faye Clark, all of Courtland; Mary Middleton, Regina Middleton, both of Batesville; Harriette Ellis of Oxford; Barbara Fondren of Southaven; and Lavern Cunningham Topps of Miami; five brothers Randy Middleton, Billy Middleton, Michael Middleton, all of Courtland; Keith Middleton of Sardis; and Michael Cunningham of Atlanta.

Thomas Lee Hall

ENID – Thomas Lee Hall, 80, died Thursday, June 28, 2012, at his residence.

Born August 25, 1931 in Charleston, he was the son of the late Marvin Hall and Lillie Rainer Hall. He was a retired farmer.

Memorial services were held Sunday, July 1 at Friedship East Baptist Church. Womble Funeral Home of Charleston had charge.

Survivors include: his sister-in-law and caregiver, Eva Scott of Enid and two nephews, Jimmy Havens and Ewel Scott, both of Enid and one niece Lynn Stewart of Enid.

Lillie Mae Smith Johnson


BATESVILLE – Lillie Mae Smith Johnson, 84, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at her residence.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Johnson was born to the late Lewis Smith and Mattie McCarver Smith.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clayton “Peewee” Johnson; one daughter Libby Johnson of Oxford; two sons, Perry Harrison of Blue Springs and Larry Harrison of Batesville; two brother C. W. Smith of Coldwater and Leon Smith of Granite City, Ill.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Mississippi Regional Center, 967 Regional Center Drive, Oxford, MS 38655.

Coleman Glenn Raines

TYLER, TEXAS – Coleman Glenn Raines, 85, formerly of Sardis, died Friday, July 6, 2012 at East Medical Center in Tyler.

Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home in Palestine, Texas. Interment will follow at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville with Wells Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.

Raines, borth March 8, 1927 in Slocum, Texas, to the late George Furman and Amanda Andrews Raines, worked for Knox Glass of Palestine. He was also an Anderson County reserve deputy for 14 years and a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Bettye Appleton Raines; two daughters Pamela Raines Quinn and Toni Raines; two step-daughters Joy Appleton Seckler and Mary Ann Appleton Eddins; two sons David Raines and Craig Raines; one step-son James Appleton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret Ann Alexander Self

CRENSHAW – Margaret Ann Alexander Self, 44, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North Mississippi.

A memorial service honoring the life of Mrs. Self will be held at a later date. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Self was born October 30, 1967 in Marks to the late J. D. Alexander and Mary Frances Parker Alexander McCraney of Water Valley.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Roger R. Self of Crenshaw; a daughter, Betty Leann Gill of Olive Branch; step-father, Charles Patrick McCraney of Water Valley; sister, Shelby Jean Busby of Water Valley; four brothers, Charles Patrick McCraney, II of Charleston, Randy Parker of Southaven, J.D. Alexander of Horn Lake and John Wayne Webb of Enid.
