South Panola and Columbus to meet tonight


After defeating the Olive Branch Conquistadors Friday night, the South Panola Tigers will take their 5-1 overall record and 2-0 district record to Columbus Thursday night to take on the Falcons who are struggling with a 1-5 record.

      The game was changed to 7 pm tonight due to an expected  weather front coming in on Friday which will bring heavy rains and thunderstorms. Head coaches Lance Pogue of South Panola and Bubba Davis of Columbus made the decision Wednesday morning.

      Davis has a very young team this year with only 16 seniors and 24 juniors. He is loaded with 42 sophomores and one freshman.

      The Falcons opened the season against Aberdeen High School on August 21 and got what has turned out to be their only victory of the season, 27-26. The following weeks the Falcons have lost to Noxubee County 23-12, West Point 24-6, Louisville 34-20,Tupelo 10-6 and Southaven 14-6. The last two are district games.

    Leading the Falcons will be quarterback No. 4 Cedric Jackson, a 5’10”, 175 sophomore. Sophomore running back Damian Baker leads the team in rushing. Chris Jackson #19, a 5’10” senior linebacker leads his Falcons in tackling.

     The game will be broadcast on WBLE FM 100.5 with the pregame at 6:30 p.m.
