Ben F. Hunt

POPE— Ben F. Hunt, 79, died Monday, September 21, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Middleton officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park with full military honors. Wells funeral Home had charge.

Hunt, born March 31, 1930, in Oakland, to the late Fred S. and Vannie McCullar Hunt, was a retired ROTC instructor with the Memphis City Schools from 1968 – 1990. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include: his wife of 59 years, Sally Harmon Hunt of Pope; one daughter, Bennita A. Hunt Saba of Batesville; his son-in-law, Louis Saba of Batesville; one son, Guary L. Hunt of Batesville; one sister, Kate Hunt Butler of Memphis; one brother, Hugh R. Hunt of Water Valley and one grandson, Robert Saba of Batesville.

Rickie Jones

SARDIS— Rickie Jones, 35, died Sunday, September 20, 2009.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Cedric Jackson officiated. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Jones, born June 15, 1974, to Cecil Marvin Jones and Wreather Mae Jones, attended North Panola High School and was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Survivors include: one son, Markese Wilbourn of Syracuse, N.Y.; two sisters, Beverly Porter and Stephanie D. Trammell, both of Omaha, Neb.

Lora Essie Bell King

BATESVILLE— Lora Essie Bell King, 61, died Friday, September 18, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in West Tennessee V.A.Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

King, born Oct. 24, 1947, to the late Leslie Oliver and Minnie Cook, was a maintenance secretary.

Survivors include: her husband, Rev. Wesley Lee King of Batesville; three daughters, Sharon Warfield, Laverne Hardin and Yvette Hardin, all of Memphis; four sisters, Mary Taylor, Cynthia Taylor, Linda Hardin and Barbara Wilson, all of Memphis; three brothers, Willie Wallace, LeRoy Hardin and Sonnie Hardin, all of Memphis; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Annie B. “Topsy” Williams Turman

CHARLESTON— Annie B. “Topsy” Williams Turman, 102, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009. She was the mother of Dave Turman Jr. of Sardis.

Graveside services were Thursday at Magnolia Garden Cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.

Turman, born to the late Albert and Lizzie Williams was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Porter Turman; one daughter, Quido Turman and one son, Albert Turman.

Survivors along with her son include: one daughter, Annie Will McNulty of Senatobia; one son, J.W. Turman of Charleston; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
