Arthur Stanley Biggers

BATESVILLE—Arthur Stanley Biggers, 47, died Friday, September 11, 2009, at his residence.

Services were Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Batesville Ray Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Biggers, born Oct. 18, 1961, to Dorothy Lefanowicz Grant Jones of Harmontown and the late J.D. Grant, was a mechanic and volunteer fire department chief at Mt. Olivet Fire Department.

Survivors along with his mother include: his wife, Deborah Biggers of Batesville; one daughter, Ashley Nicole Biggers of Batesville; one son, Brandon Andrew Powell of Glen; two sisters, Patricia Grant Thomson of Germany and Victoria Grant Hart of Harmontown; five brothers, Robby John Grant of Laws Hill, Wayne Grant of Charleston, Dennis Jones and David Grant of Harmontown and Dennis Grant of Batesville; one grandchild, Andy Powell of Glen.

Garrick D. Burdette

SARDIS—Garrick D. Burdette, 41, died Saturday, September 12, 2009.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. James Church of God in Christ. Burial will be in Mt. Level Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include: two sons, Pawon Weeds Burdette of Milwaukee, Wis. and Garrick Burdette Jr.; his parents, Ruby Burdette Ellis of Sardis and Curtis James Ellis Sr. of Como; two sisters, Chanrda Ellis of Memphis and Verkedra Hall of Sardis; three brothers, Darrick Ellis of Memphis, Andrae Ellis of Como and Curtis Ellis Jr. of Millington, Tenn and his grandparents, Thessolonia Webster of Sardis and Clarence Webster of Sardis and Ulysses Dowden of Chicago.

Teresa Lowe Ferrell

OXFORD—Teresa Lowe Ferrell, 45, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at her residence after a five month battle with cancer.

Services were Saturday at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial was in Singleton Springs Cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include: her husband, Sammy Ferrell of Oxford; her parents, Bill and Martha Lowe of Sardis; one daughter, Abby Red of Cleveland and one son, Zach Red of Oxford and one sister, Angie Woolfolk and brother-in-law, Don Woolfolk.

Emma Katherine Hudson Hentz

TUPELO—Emma Katherine Hudson Hentz, 86, died Sunday, September 13, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

Services were Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Batesville. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Hentz, born Aug. 10, 1923, to the late William Peach Hudson and Emma Brown Hudson, was a retired nursing assistant. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, was a Sunday school teacher and worked with the Methodist Youth Fellowship. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Lamar Hentz.

Survivors include: four daughters, Emma Kay Hentz, Frances Jane Hentz and Linda Faye Hentz Carden, all of Batesville and Kathy Hentz Luckey  of Clinton and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Sanctuary Hospice House; 5159 West Main St., Tupelo, Miss. 38801.

 

Sheila Dianne McDaniel

BATESVILLE—Sheila Dianne McDaniel, 52, died Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday at Sharpley Funeral Home in Decatur. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

McDaniel, born Nov. 7, 1956, to the late Ira Bunell Shirley and Eva Dale Hubbard, was a retired manager for Allstate Life Insurance.

Survivors include: her fiance, Billy R. Lawson of Batesville; two daughters, Shamekia Lee Shirley of Decatur, Ala. and Altovise Evett Shirley Garrett of Fort Campbell, Ky.; two sons, Larry Shirley and Chris Shirley, both of Decatur; two sisters, Pat Shirley of Haleyville, Ala. and Margaret West of Greenville, Ala.; one brother, Lloyd Hubbard of Russellville, Ala. and 14 grandchildren.

Margie R. Wright

CRENSHAW—Margie R. Wright, 71, died Monday, September 14, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Joe Barnett officiated. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Wright, born Oct. 13, 1937, in Quitman County, to the late Lush and Jennie Mae Allred, was a member of Askew Baptist Church. She was the owner of Wright’s Cafe in Crenshaw.

Survivors include: two daughters, Pamela Wright Tidwell of Batesville and Machelle Barlow of Sarah; one son, Jeffrey Wright of Sardis; one sister, Annis Allred Barnett of Bruce; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Laura Dooley Reed

SARDIS—Laura Dooley Reed, 81, died Thursday, September 10, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Viney Creek M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Ozine Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and and Saturday and 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Viney Creek M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Reed, born Sept. 9, 1928, in Sardis, to the late Earnest Bacon and Letha Tyler, was a member of Viney Creek M.B. Church and a retired factory worker. She was an usher, on the Mother Board and member of the Panola County Chapter of the NAACP.

Survivors include: six daughters, Charlene Bradford, Dearia Salter, Letha Wiley, all of Sardis, Mary H. McIntyre of Coldwater, Carrie Black of Horn Lake and Ethel M. Reed of Washington; four sons, John Reed of Sardis, Anthony Reed of Vicksburg, Clifton Reed of Cordova, Tenn. and Charles Reed of St. Louis; one sister, Mittie Hudson of Merriville, Ind.; two brothers, Earnest Dooley and Garfield Howard, both of Chicago; 28 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchild.
