BATESVILLE– Katie Mae Warren Ales, 91, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Sunday at Black Jack Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the church cemetery .Rev. Gary Crowell, Dr. David Ball and Rev. Doug Sullivan-Gonzalez officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Ales, born Aug. 19, 1917,  to the late to the late Thomas Jefferson Warren and the late Minnie Lee Duke Warren, was a homemaker and a member of Black Jack Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, served in the Presbyterian Women’s Organization and the synod of the Mid-South and The Presbytery.

She transported children and disabled adults to church and other functions. She cared for and visited sick elderly in hospitals, nursing homes and their homes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Jackson Ales.

Survivors include: one son, Thomas Keith Ales of Batesville; one daughter-in-law, Willa Odom Ales; one sister, Sadie Warren Faggert of Heidelberg; three grandchildren, Lacey Herron Lenoir of Guntersville, Ala., Shannon Lynne Ales of Hattiesburg and Gavin Thomas Ales of Alexandria, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Meredith and Preston Arnold and Anna Kate and Jack Lenoir.

Memorials may be made to Black Jack Presbyterian Church Fund-Shelley Russell, 32652 Black Jack Road, Batesville, Miss. 38606.

BATESVILLE– Gerald Allen Becton, 77, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at Golden Living Nursing Home.

Services will be held at  a later date. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Becton, born June 13, 1932, in Memphis, to the late Faber Allen and Geraldine Becton, was a retired salesman for Weiss Auto Parts in Memphis.

Survivors include: his wife, Frances Hanson Becton of Senatobia; two daughters, Diane Gordon Small of Atlanta, Ga. and Regina Gordon Kinnane of Detroit, Mich.; three sons, Phillip Gaines Gordon of Amarillo, Texas, Joey M. Gordon of Ft. Worth, Texas and Dale B. Gordon of Atlanta, Ga.; three half sisters, Peggy Clifton Howell of Memphis, Joyce Clifton White of Southaven and Jenette Clifton Jowers of Brownsville, Tenn.; three half-brothers, Buddy Clifton and Gerald Clifton, both of Southaven and Hack Clifton of Florida and five grandchildren.

WATER VALLEY– Betty Jean Cosby Crogan, 78, formerly of Batesville died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.

She was born in Batesville to the late Johnny and Lois Sturgis Cosby.  She was an accounting for Clerk for Trailways for many years. She was a member of the Sylva Rena Baptist Church in Water Valley.

 Services will be held in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home at 2 p.m. today  with Rev. Calvin Miller officiating. Visitation will be from  11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery. Seven Oaks Funeral Home has charge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Joseph Crogan and one son, Michael Patrick Crogan.

Survivors include: her daughter-in-law, Teresa Crogan Eakin with husband Vince Eakin of Water Valley.

HORN LAKE–Randy Paul Perkins, 50, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his home.  He was the son of Ralph and Martha Perkins of Pope.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. today at Forest Hill South Funeral Home.

Perkins was retired from Athens Distributing.

Survivors include his wife  of 22 years, Tina Perkins of Horn Lake;  three daughters, Terri Kreider, April White, Rachel Perkins; one son, Andy Perkins; two sisters, Marilyn Lane and Paula Forgey and two brothers, Dennis Perkins and Danny Perkins.

 BATESVILLE– Leslie Ross Scallorn, 94, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009.

Services were Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Dr. Johnny Spencer officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Scallorn, born June 20, 1915, to the late Robert Lee Scallorn and Tincel Merriman Scallorn, was an active member of First Baptist Church of Batesville since 1949. He was the church treasurer and financial secretary for 30 years and a deacon.

He was a salesman for Hardin’s Bakery and a sergeant serving in WWII.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Glynn Tucker Scallorn; two sons, Tom Scallorn  of Moscow, Idaho and Ross Scallorn of Batesville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pamela Joe Shields

CLARKSDALE– Pamela Joe Shields, 55, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at her residence. She was the niece of Howard Shields of Batesville.

There will be no memorial services at this time. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Survivors include two uncles, Dee Craig Jr. of Marks and Joseph Dolden of Edlorado, Ill.

ST. LOUIS– Gracie Mae Grady Williams, 83, formerly of Batesville, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Love Joy Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo. Rev. Ralph McDaniel and Rv. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate.

Williams, born Aug. 11, 1925, in Osceola, Ark., to the late Henry Hayes Grady and the late James Anna Wright Grady, was a licensed nurse for over 30 years. She graduated from Rust College and St. Louis Board of Education.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sheila Williams of St. Louis; her nephew, Dr. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. of Batesville; her niece, Jeanette Johnson of Batesville and two grandchildren.
