North Delta’s Ethan Taylor enjoyed a career day Monday as the sophomore blasted a pair of home runs and collected six RBI’s to help lead the Green Wave to a 14-4 romp over West Memphis, (Ark.) in the District 1 – 1A opener for both schools.

Freshman Bailey Guckert led the offensive attack with  four singles while John Cody Dalrymple had three hits as the Wave pounded out 19 hits on the day. Gerri Lamn, Michael Magee and Hunter West all had a pair of hits while Jim Tom Copeland and Britt Lawrence each singled. Bateman Greenlee doubled and also walked three times during the game.

Greenlee pitched six innings to record his first win of the year.

Things started out slow for the home team as West Memphis jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first off  Greenlee as Mike Anderson and John Francis each delivered RBI singles.

North Delta (2-3; 1-0) answered back in the bottom half of the inning by plating three runs on three hits to tie the game. Lamm got the inning started with a triple to right. The Wave then loaded the bases as Magee was hit by a pitch and Copeland drew a walk. Taylor’s sacifice fly scored Lamm for the first run while Magee and Copeland scored on a pair of errors.

The Green Wave proceeded to score four runs in the second and two more on Taylor’s two-run dinger in the fourth to expand the lead to 9-3. North Delta added one in the fifth and four more in the sixth including Taylor’s three-run clout to round out scoring. Taylor also pitched a perfect seventh inning in relief of Copeland by striking out the side.

Greenlee scattered four runs on four hits  while walking three and fanning seven to go along with two hit batsmen.

North Delta was scheduled to play at Desoto, (Ark.) last night but the game was postponed due to inclement weather. A makeup date has not been set. If the weather allows, North Delta will host Tunica in a district matchup.
