South Panola FP loses first game to Clinton

The South Panola Lady Tigers avoided a shut out and being run-ruled by Clinton by scratching two runs across in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday night.
The first round of playoffs did not go exactly to the Lady Tigers’ plans as they fell to Clinton 11-2.
Both teams had four errors which resulted in runs. South Panola scored two unearned runs as Aubrianna Craven extended the game with a fly ball to center field driving home Haven Dulin and Alli Cummins. Dulin reached on an error and Cummins singled and advanced bases on an error by the shortstop.
Clinton had all four of its errors in the bottom of the sixth as eight of the nine Tiger batters went to the plate.
However, South Panola left the bases loaded.
Tiger pitchers Freshman Rebekah Cook, who got the start, and sophomore Kaitlyn Tidwell, who pitched 3.2 innings in relief just had no answer as Clinton pounded out 15 hits against them.
Head coach Ashleigh Hicks does not let the team use the youth card this late in the season, but the senior-laden Arrows team clearly knew how to position themselves to make the “routine” plays that somehow would get by the Lady Tigers.
Bailey Russell also had two hits in the game.
South Panola traveled to Clinton for game two and three, if necessary, yesterday to close out round one of the playoffs. The scores were not available at press time. South Panola needed to win out in order to advance to round two.
The winner will advance to play the winner of the Madison Central/Desoto Central series Tuesday.
