SP softball earns No. 48 national ranking

The South Panola Lady Tiger fastpitch softball team has garnered national attention from softball.com.

The internet site has ranked the Lady Tigers No. 48 in the nation.

This comes as the lady Tigers shut out Clinton 3-0 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon on the road.

Lady Tigers senior pitcher Whitney Kiihnl got the win to go 3-0 on the season. Anna Kate Jackson took the loss for the Lady Arrows.

The Lady Tigers got seven hits in the game. All three runs were scored in the top of the second inning.

Kiihnl was two for four with a double. Haylei Plummer was one for four with a double. Scoring runs were Stormy Robison, Kasey Kelsay and Ellen Farrish.

The Lady Tigers have extended their win streak to 15 games.

Today, they continue their road series to Southaven to take on former district foe, the Southaven Lady chargers, following the junior varsity game at 5 p.m.

Saturday, the Lady Tigers will take on Brandon and New Hope in the Grenada Tournament. Tuesday, the Lady Tigers will be back on the road to take on the Cleveland Lady Indians beginning at 5 p.m.

Friday, South Panola will host the Strike Out For Cancer event against Grenada at 5 and 6 p.m. Luminaries are being sold to raise money for the American Cancer Society for $6. That, along with the gate fees, will be donated to the organization.
