CROWDER––Clara B. Dodd King, 65, died Sunday, January 27, 2008.
Services were Saturday, February 2 at Valley Queen M.B. Church in Marks. Burial was in Booker Cemetery. Delta Burial had charge.

King, born Jan. 13, 1943, to the late Willie B. and Georgianna Dodd, was a member of Valley Queen Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie “Peewee”King  and one son, Randy King.

Survivors include: two sons, Carl King of Marks and Jerome King of Memphis; three daughters, Sherry King of Marks, Beverly Pope of Sardis and Linda King of Southaven; seven sisters, Annie Jean McKenzie and Mae Ella Washington, both of Oakland, Calif., Priscilla Montgomery of Huntsville, Ala., Debbie Lloyd of Pope; Charlene Griffin, Belinda Dodd and Janice Dodd, all of Batesville and   seven grandchildren.

CROWDER––Donald Ray Dunn, 63, died Sunday, February 17, 2008.
Memorial services will be today at Lone Oak Church of Christ in Steens at 10 a.m. The church will be open at 9 a.m. for visitation.

Dunn, born July 10, 1944, in Oakland, to the late J.D. Dunn and Eunice Poindexter Dunn, graduated from Crowder High School in 1963. He joined the U.S. Army July 16, 1963, at the age of 19. He was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Columbus and was a member of the 40/8 and the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Sanders.

Survivors include: one daughter, Jennifer Dunn Honeycutt; four brothers, Danny Dunn of Marks, Jimmy Dunn of Mobile, Ala., Paul Dunn of Spring Hill, Tenn. and Ricky Dunn of Hattiesburg; two sisters, Glenda Pruitt of Marks and Barbara Nell Smith of Charleston and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the State Veterans Home, 310 Autumn Ridge Dr., Kosciusko, 39090, the American Cancer Society or the cemetery fund at Lone Oak Church of Christ.

CALLAHAN, Fla.––Charles David Everett, 73, died February 8, 2008, at his residence. He was the uncle of Sammy Everett of Batesville.

Services were Wednesday, February 13 at Chapel of Callahan Funeral Home. Burial was in Callahan Community Cemetery. Callahan Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include: his wife, Jane Everett; two step daughters, Day Thibodeaux and Sam Moore; three sons, David Allen Everett, Scott Everett and Charles Everett; two step-sons, Mike Kaufman and Stephen Kaufman; one sister, Mabel Jean Everett Walker of Memphis; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

WATER VALLEY––Sandra Beatrice Keel, 62, died Monday, February, 18, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis. She was a member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church.

Services were Thursday at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Rev. Roger Howell officiated. Burial was in Lovejoy Cemetery. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge.

Keel, born Jan. 17, 1946, to the late Travis Lamar and Kathleen McCullar Bonner, was a homemaker.

Survivors include: her husband, Ernest Keel of Water Valley; three daughters, Karen Kilpatrick of Water Valley, Jaynette McDonald of Coldwater and Angie Gentry of Water Valley; one son, Johnny Ware of Batesville; two brothers, Travis Bonner and Lamar Bonner, both of Georgetown and ten grandchildren.

LINCOLN, Neb.––Dorothy Vernette Marizett, 81, died Saturday, February 16, 2008. She was married to the late Rev. Eugene Marizett, former pastor of Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Sardis and Shiloh Baptist Church.

Services were Thursday at Greater Galatians Baptist Church in Memphis. Rev. James Gilkey officiated. Burial was in West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Metcalf Funeral Home had charge.

Marizett, born May 9, 1926, to the late Lazarus and Mattie White Pegues, was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She attended Mississippi Industrial College (now Rust College) in Holly Springs.

Survivors include: two daughters, Dr. Gwendolyn Marizett Combs of Lincoln, Neb. And Harriet Huggins of Memphis; one sister, Mildred Stinson of Memphis and three grandchildren.

BATESVILLE––Arty Rice Tapp, 48, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at his residence.

Services were Friday February 8 at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church in Batesville and Saturday, February 9 at Waters Funeral Home. Steve Lampkin and Mark Anderson officiated. Burial was in Prentiss Memorial Gardens. Waters Funeral Home had charge.

Tapp was a park ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and former Panola County Forester. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church and a boy scout leader.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Rice Tapp.

Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Roellgen Tapp of Batesville; one daughter, Kara Tapp of Batesville; one son, John Tapp of Batesville; his parents, Clyde and Jewell Tapp of Baldwyn; three brothers, Rick Tapp of Baldwyn, Mark Tapp of Booneville and Hunt Kirk; and two sisters, Betsy Gibbs and Kelly McCarley.

BATESVILLE––Ophelia M. Young, 97, died Sunday, February 17, 2008, at her residence.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Rev. Roosevelt Gage will officiate. Burial will be in New Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be today 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Young, born Oct. 10, 1910, to the late Field Mitchell and the late Dora Barr, was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she was the oldest member. She was on the Mother Board and Usher Board.

Survivors include: one sister, Effielean Spears of Batesville; three grandchildren who cared for her, Loretta Kuykendall, Roy Kuykendall and Lawrence Kuykendall, all of Batesville; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 50 great-great-grandchildren.
