LULA– Herbert Earl Jones, 43, died Friday, November 9, 2007, at his residence. He was the father of Veronica Jones of Batesville.

Services were Monday at Lula Baptist Church. Rev. Fletcher officiated. Burial was in Barbee Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Jones, born May 7, 1964, in Lambert, to the late Alvin Earl Jones and Etta Jones of Locke Station, was a truck driver and a member of Lula Baptist Church.

Survivors along with his daughter and mother include: his wife, Frankie Jones of Lula; one step-son, George Michael Correro of Lula; one son, Michael Jones of Tupelo; one sister, Sheila Jones Cook of Locke Station; one brother, Keith Jones of Sardis and four grandchildren.

WILMINGTON, N.C.– Walter Roy “WR”?Snyder, 47, died Friday, November 9, 2007, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C.

Visitation will be Wednesday 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home with family service to follow. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery in Pope. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Snyder, born Oct. 13, 1960, in Shelby County, Tenn., to the late Walter Robert and Dot Herring Snyder, lived in the UPC?Home in Wilmington, N.C. where he attended the Wilmington Advance Vocational Education Center “Wave.”

Survivors include:?one sister, Angela Snyder Sebree of Lilburn, Ga.; two half-sisters, Betty Bennett of Nesbit and Barbara Johnson of Bartlett, Tenn.; two half-brothers, L.D. Snyder of Edgefield, S.C. and Walter D. Snyder of Horn Lake.

BATESVILLE– Edwayne Ware, 75, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at the Veterans Home in Oxford.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Howell officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Ware, born May 1, 1932, in Carroll County, to the late Jacob Lawrence and Sabie Pinkston Ware, was retired from South Central Bell. He also served in the US Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Faye Quest Ware.

Survivors include: one daughter, Teresa Faye Ware Marler of Hendersonville, Tenn.; one son, Donald P. Ware of Batesville; two sisters, Betty Ware Guest of Water Valley and Ouida Ware Pollock of Batesville; two brothers, Tony Glenn Ware of Batesville and George Felix Ware of Coldwater and five grandchildren.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– Happy Vaughan Burney, 87, died Thursday, November 8, 2007, at Kirkwood By the River in Brigham, Ala. She was the mother of Bill Burney of Batesville and the mother-in-law of Wanda Burney of Batesville.

Services were Sunday, November 11, 2007, at Ackerman Baptist Church. Rev. Danny Irvin officiated. Burial was in Enon Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home had charge.

Burney, born Jan. 12, 1920 was a member of Ackerman Baptist Church and a retired administrator for Choctaw County Hospital.

Survivors along with her son and daughter-in-law include: two daughters, Martha B. Burris of Birmingham, Ala. and Mary Paula MacDonald of Richmond, Texas; one sister, Maxine Jones of Ackerman; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

James Sidney Doty

COURTLAND—James Sidney Doty, 72, died Monday, November 12, 2007, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Wednesday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Rayford Ables officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Doty was born Nov. 3, 1935, to the late Burris and Evelyn Freeman Doty.

Survivors include: his wife, Carrie Mae Coleman Doty of Courtland; two daughters, Ginger Calvert of Crowder and Mona Roberts of Batesville; two sons, James L. Doty of Batesville and Gary W. Doty of Coffeeville; one sister, Marian Stokes of Batesville; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE—Larry Dean Morris, 61, died Thursday, September 27, 2007.

Services were Friday, October 5, at First Baptist Church in Melrose Park, Ill. John L. Belser officiated. Burial was in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.  Wallace Broadview Funeral Home had charge.

Morris, born Nov. 24, 1946, to the late Arthur and Reba Morris of Batesville, was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Batesville. He graduated from high school in Batesville and continued his education at Coahoma Junior College. He served two years in the armed services in the late 1960s with tours of duty in Vietnam and Thailand. After leaving the army he moved to Chicago and began his career with the Chicago Transit Authority.

Survivors include: his wife, Alice Morris; one daughter, Trina Morris; three sisters, Shirley Faye Caldwell, Dorothy Eggleston and Martha Gail Morris and five brothers, Garner Morris of Victorville, Calif., Leonard Morris, Bobby Morris of Dallas, Texas and Ezra Morris.

SARDIS– Elijah Stewart, 53, died Friday, November 2, 2007.
Services were Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Greater Mt. Zion COGIC in Marks. Willie Parker officiated. Burial was in Booker Cemetery. Eddie Robinson Funeral Home had charge.

Stewart, born May 24, 1954, to the late Henderson Man Stewart and Sarah Mae Roberts, was appointed pastor of Power House  Church of God in Christ, East Bates Church of God in Christ and Faith in Action Ministries. He was a commercial truck driver for Beard Trucking Company.

One son, Robert Linville Stewart, preceded him in death.

Survivors include: his wife, Laize Stewart of Sardis; three daughters, Georgia Lee of Batesville, Angela Williams of Sardis and Tabitha Montgomery of Horn Lake; three sons, Chris Williams, Mack R. Williams and Kenneth Williams, all of Sardis; three brothers, Leslie Stewart of Southaven, Lester Woods of New Orleans, La. and Johnny B. Woods of Memphis; six sisters, Rosetta Martin of Milwaukee, Ella Bates of McComb, Essie Sims, Helen Stewart and Josie Rucker, all of Marks and Shelley Ellis of Memphis; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

COMO– Mack H. Taylor Sr., 82, died Friday, November 9, 2007, at his residence.

Services are today at noon at Howard Chapel C.M.E. Church of Como. Burial will be in Mt. Mariah Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Taylor, born December 17, 1925, to the late Eddie Taylor and the late Mary Ples, was a brick mason, a veteran of WWII and a member of Como Chapel C.M.E. Church.

Survivors  include:?his wife, Hazeltine Taylor of Como; five daughters, Carolyn Taylor, Donna Taylor and Glendora Dugger, all of Como, Gwendolyn Cox of Houston, Texas and Barbara Crowe of Toledo, Ohio; five sons, Larry Taylor of Cleveland, Ohio, Aubrey Taylor, Leon Taylor and Mack Taylor Jr., all of Como and Bridge Taylor of Holly Springs; one sister, Lillie Parker of New York and two brothers, Clyde Parker of Memphis and L.D. Taylor.

OXFORD—Sarah Evelyn Morrow Brooks, 83, died Thursday, November 15, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. She was the grandmother of Jeannie Allen of Batesville.

Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Waller Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Patterson will officiate. Burial will be in   St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be today 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Waller Funeral Home has charge.

Brooks was a member of Temple Heights Baptist Church, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary-Oxford Post. She was a retired bookkeeper for Graceland Care Center and Overstreet Properties.

Her husband, William H. Brooks, preceded her in death.

Survivors along with her granddaughter include: one daughter, Dianne Smith Kerr of Poteau, Okla.; one sister, Kate Palmer of Holly Springs; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
