South Panola Baseball hasĀ  two losses in opening week

The South Panola baseball team is serious about getting better as they hosted two of the top teams in North Mississippi opening weekend.
South Panola has yet to score a run losing to Southaven in the season opener 5-0 Friday night and to Desoto Central 16-0 Saturday afternoon.
In the opening game Friday, the South Panola Jr. Varsity teams lost to Southaven 4-0.
Southaven’s bats got hot in the third inning and spilled over into the fourth to put together a four-running fourth inning to take the game.
In varsity action, Anderson Wilder got the starting nod on the mound.
He pitched 5.1 innings before Nathan Herron relieved him in the sixth for the last 1.2 innings.
Wilder struck out six of 24 batters faced, allowing three runs, six hits and one walk.
Herron allowed two walks, three hits, two runs and hit one player.
South Panola scattered five hits throughout the game. Herron hit a triple in bottom of the first but came off the bag when he stood up and was tagged out.
Tripp Still singled in the second and got a fielder’s choice in the seventh and was left on base.
Bowen Williams single din the fifith and advanced to third.
He was thrown out at the plate attempting to steal home on a Chris Casiday fielders choice.
Brayden locke and Blaine Ware drew walks.
Desoto Central 16, South Panola 0
In the first game of the triple header afternoon, South Panola fell hard to Desoto Central 16-0 in three innings.
The Jaguars put a six-run first inning hurt on the Tigers.
Two triples highlighted the Jaguars first inning as they went through their batting order.
It was one hour and 12 minutes into the game before South Panola’s number nine batter, Brayden Locke got his first at bat in bottom of the third inning. South Panola also recorded four errors.
South Panola used three pitchers but Desoto Central had no problem with any of them.
Blaine Ware got the starting nod and pitched 1.1 innings and took the loss.
He was relieved by Chris Brown who also pitched 1.1 innings before giving over to Ryan McCurby who closed out the game.
Hitting for South Panola were Dalton Barefoot and Locke.
The Tigers return to action today at 6 p.m. as they host Water Valley at 4 and 6 p.m.
Saturday, they travel to Brandon for the Mid-Mississippi Classic. They will play Brandon at 2 p.m. and MRA at 4:30 p.m.
