Officials say class will resume Mon.

A burst pipe or coil Tuesday afternoon in an air conditioning unit led to an alarm of fire that alerted Batesville Police Department and Keith Moore of a problem that could have been much worse, according to the SP School District Maintenance Director.
The burst pipe inside the second floor AC unit allowed hot water to run undetected for an unknown length of time as no one was in the school with everyone taking the week off for Thanksgiving.
The actual amount of damage is unknown and Serve-Pro, a professional building interior rehabilitation service, had worked through the night Tuesday into the morning Wednesday “squeegeeing” water from both floors of the building first occupied in 2001. Water did not enter the new 9th grade wing at the high school.
District Information Director Jeff Eubanks and Moore both stated the amount of damage is unknown although Moore is more concerned with mildew than water Wednesday morning. Moore said he is familiar with problems caused by water getting under and in between flooring tiles and noted the remainder of the building can be affected by moisture in the building’s air.
Serv-Pro had placed dozens of fans and numerous dehumidifiers throughout the affected area which included both stories of the east end hallway. Moore said the blowers and dehumidifiers would be running non-stop through Sunday.
Eubanks confirmed the high school would re-open Monday morning, November 28 as scheduled.
