JV Tigers cruise in late win vs Oxford

D’marrion Perteet’s 61-yard touchdown run with :56 seconds remaining in the game proved to be the difference maker as South Panola’s 9th grade football team held off a late fourth quarter rally by Oxford to gain a 20-12 win Monday.
South Panola led 14-6 with 2:43 left in the game before the Chargers scored on a 65-yard fumble return to close the margin to 14-12 before Perteet’s scoring run.
The Tigers took a 6-0 lead late in the first quarter on a 24-yard scoring pass from David Hubbard to Coya Ford.
South Panola extended its lead to 14-0 in the third as Hubbard called his own number from one-yard out with Perteet adding the two-point conversion.
South Panola out-gained Oxford 204-147 in total yardage. Perteet ran for 128 yards on 18 carries while Hubbard accounted for 11 yards on seven carries and 4-of-5 passing for 69 yards.
Hubbard also intercepted a pass to snuff out a Oxford potential scoring drive late in the first half.
The Tigers visit Lafayette County Monday before closing out the season at home Oct. 1 against Grenada.
