The Town of Como is growing as more businesses are moving into the area.

The Town of Como Mayor and Board of Aldermen heard requests from various types of businesses.

Charlotte Franklin received permission to open Charlotte’s Unique Boutique in a building next to RB’s Southern Cuisine and Catering on Highway 51 South.

She handcrafts backpacks, bow ties, purses and more. “I want to bring something to the community,” Franklin said. She has been designing for two years. She will also incorporate beauty and health information.

Sherry Boyce, of Ken’s Kitchens, received permission to move the restaurant from the residential area where it is currently located, to a new building on Highway 51 North, next to the car wash.

Upon the proper privilege license, Boyce was given permission to open the R&M Snack Shop.

Mayor Everett Hill reported Jody Thind will be ready to break ground on the new truck stop in five to six weeks.

Fire Department

The fire chief reported they responded to six fires, four medical calls and four vehicle accidents.

The semi-annual Boston Butt fundraiser is ongoing until Nov. 17. Butts are $35. Contact any firefighter.

Police Department

Assistant Police Chief Faye Pettis reported Como is running pretty good.  She said the department needs more cars and reported one officer is transferring to Batesville, one going to part time and they have a couple of applicants.

City Hall

Tammy Campbell was presented her Municipal Clerk Conference certificate.

Sewer Grant

Lillian Hilson with North Delta Planning and Development reported on the status of the Delta Rural Association grant and a USDA loan application.

The $500,000 wastewater treatment grant was approved and they are awaiting word on the $4.3 million loan for improvement to the sewage and water system.

Hill said after the board meeting the loan will be used to paint the water towers, put in new waters meter and other projects.

Claim Docket

The claims docket for $45,768.64 was approved; $18,000 will be moved from tourism to pay Cook Coggin Engineers, the clerk said.
