Thomarrius M. Ballentine

Thomarrius Marquell Ballentine, 21, died Friday, May 25 in Marks.

Funeral services will be held Sat., June 2 at 11 a.m.  at Lakeview M. B. Church in Crenshaw. Pastor H. P. Washington will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held today from noon until 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Ballentine was born August 28, 1996 in Clarksdale to Kenneth and Sabrina Ballentine. He was a factory worker at Clay Factory in Crenshaw and a member of Lakeview M. B. Church.

Bobby G. Barnett

Bobby G. Barnett, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 in Oklahoma from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Batesville with the interment following in Magnolia Cemetery.

Bobby was born October 12, 1929 to the late Albert “Jack” and Velma Barnett in Panola County.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Dorothy (Dot) W. Chamblee Barnett. Bobby is survived by one brother, Albert Hugh Barnett (Mary Lou) of Batesville; three nephews, Dr. Charles Barnett (Kim) of Batesville, Gene Barnett of Huntsville, Ala.., and Tim Barnett (Angela) of Batesville; one niece, Latitia Hopper (Dennis) of Batesville; two step-sons, Bilbo Chamblee, Jr. of Hereford, Texas. His two sons are Ben and Robert Chamblee and step-son Stan Chamblee (Stephanie) of Madison. His daughter Rebecca and son Danny live with their families in the Memphis area.

After attending Batesville High School, Northwest Community College, and Mississippi State University, Bobby was accepted into the United States Air Force Aviation Cadet Program and served 21 years on active duty as a transport airplane pilot. Bobby retired with the commissioned rank of  Lieutenant Colonel. Following Air Force service, Bobby worked for 20 years for the Mississippi State Employment Service as a Veteran’s Employment Representative.

Bobby loved his Batesville First Baptist Church, his family, and his friends with whom he played a variety of card games. Bobby was a member of the Rotary Club of Batesville, a “Paul Harris” fellow, and life member of the V.F.W. Bobby enjoyed traveling, southern gospel singing, and deer hunting.

Mamie Pearson Bray

Mamie “Trixie” Elizabeth Pearson Bray, 94, pdied Monday, May 28, 2018, at her home in Batesville.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, May 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Batesville, where she was member. Interment was in Forrest Memorial Park.

She was born December 19, 1923 in Lambert, to the late John R. and Mamie Adams Pearson. Mamie was married on December 4, 1943 to Walter “Wally” Bray, and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Mrs. Bray worked as the secretary to the President of Chrysler Corporation in Milwaukee, WI, and worked as a court reporting secretary.

Mrs. Bray retired in 1983 and moved to Pensacola, Fla. for 12 years and then moved to Batesville in the fall of 1999.

Rosemary Hudson Davis

Rosemary Hudson Davis, age 84, of Batesville, passed away near Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 27, 2018. She was the widow of Emmett Millard Davis, Sr.

Funeral services for Ms. Davis will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday June 1, 2018 at Batesville Church of Christ with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Mr. Robert Rawson and Mr. Michael Bates will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Rosemary was born December 26, 1933 to the late William Ward and Alice Bumpus Hudson in Hickory Flat, MS. She was the retired owner of Fashion Fabrics in Batesville, MS and a member of Batesville Church of Christ. Rosemary was a faithful dedicated member of her church. She adored her grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. In her spare time she loved to travel to southern gospel singings. She enjoyed sewing and playing cards. She had a card group that she regularly played with during the week and a Rook group she played with in Sardis on Fridays.

The family she leaves behind to cherish her loving memory includes her two daughters, Donna Davis Smith (Mark), and Sandra Davis Egbert (Ralph) both of Batesville; three sons, Willie Bryant Davis (Joyce) of Pope, Wade Davis (Cheryl), and Emmett Millard Davis, Jr. (Jean) both of Batesville; one sister, Betty Ann Hudson Fischer of Allen, Texas.; 7 grandchildren, Chad Smith, Chris Smith, Quentin Davis, Amanda Davis, Megan Slade, Clint Egbert, and Jessica Hall; 10 great grandchildren, Chandler and Savannah Smith, Logan, Ava and Davis Smith, Avariel Davis, Sawyer and Annabelle Slade, Eli and Lexi Hall.

In addition to her parents and loving husband, Rosemary was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Wayne Davis; and 2 grandchildren, William Chase Egbert and Victoria Alexandria Davis; and 2 brothers, Bobby Hudson and Billy Hudson.

Memorial contributions in Rosemary’s honor may be made to Sardis Lake Christian Camp, 176 4-H Club Rd., Batesville MS 38606 or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Myra C. Johnson

Myra C. Johnson, 78, passed into God presence on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.

She was born December 18, 1939 in Batesville. She was a retired teacher and loved by many of her students.She was a member of Green Castle Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Ms Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Kermit Johnson and survived by her nieces and nephew.

There will be a memorial services at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Green Castle Baptist Church, 4970 Murphy Lane, Louisville, Ken.

Cremation was chosen.

Arrangements entrusted A. D. Porter & Sons, 1300 W. Chestnut St., Louisville.

Jimmy King

Jimmy King, 68, of Sardis, passed away May 25, 2018 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Norman King of Sardis; sons, Patrick King (Jan) and Jeremy King (Renee), all of Senatobia; mother, Ophelia King of Hammond, La.; sister, Shirley Brown (Ralph) of Hammond, La.; brother, Mike King of Sardis and grandchildren, Adam King, Lilly Grace King and Molly King, all of Senatobia.

He was preceded in death by his father, James H. King Sr.

A visitation was held Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia.

Lee Taylor

Lee Taylor, age 91, passed away at Sardis Nursing Home Friday, May 25, 2018. She was the widow of Leonard Taylor.

Funeral Services for Ms. Taylor were held Monday, May 28, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Interment was in Forrest Memorial Park.

Lee was born August 16, 1926 to the late Joseph Tigner and Rebecca Bullard Tigner in Iuka.

Leigh worked for William Carter Company and Parker Hannaford before retiring.

Leigh was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Batesville.

Jimmie Earl Reed

Jimmie Earl Reed, 63, died Fri., May 25, 2018 at Panola Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel. Pastor David Walton will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Gillion Church Cemetery in Sardis.

Reed was born Aug. 3, 1954 in Batesville to Jack Henry Reed and Bessie B. Cox Reed. He worked in landscaping and was a member of Olive Ray M. B. Church.

Alexander Parker

Alexander Wade Parker, 61, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018, at his mother’s home in Como.

Alex was born June 11, 1957 to Billie McNemar Parker and the late James Edward Parker in Lincoln Park, Mich. Alex was a truck driver for Kentucky Clay. 

He is survived by his mother, Billy Parker.

The family will hold a memorial service for Alex at a later date.
