Sardis mayor in runoff

Sardis Mayor Billy Russell will face Lula Palmer in the May 16 Democratic Party Runoff Election.
In unofficial returns the incumbent mayor polled 254 first primary votes in a three-way contest against former Sardis alderwoman, Lula Palmer, who received 193, and Mancini Quintez who received 107 votes.
Alderman-at-Large Roy Scallorn was defeated in his bid for re-election, polling 244 votes to challenger Michael Price’s 309.
In Ward Two, incumbent Clarence “Boo Boo” Jones was re-elected as alderman, defeating challenger Rufus “Bill” Smith, 75 to 55.
Ward Three Alderwoman Bonnie Smith was resoundingly re-elected with 98 votes to challengers Earl “Front Page” Johnson’s and Brandon Burton’s 13 and 1, respectively.
In Crenshaw incumbent Alderwomen Patricia Dodson and Alberta Bradley were handily re-elected to represent Wards One and Three, respectively.
Dodson received 39 votes to challenger Clarence “Big Hurt” White’s 13 votes, Bradley 25 votes to Marco Goings 10.
