South Panola fastpitch  opens season with win

The South Panola Lady Tigers opened the home season at South Panola Thursday with a 7-1 win over Olive Branch.
South Panola (2-1) used two pitchers to shut down the Lady Quistors. Darbi Smith got the starting nod, striking out three of the 24 batters faced and got the win.
Smith allowed six hits, one run and walked three. Kaitlin Tidwell came in for relief in top of the sixth inning.
Tidwell pitched a two-inning no hitter and got the save.
Olive Branch jumped out to a 1-0 lead in top of the fifth on a single RBI (run batted in).
South Panola scored three runs in bottom of the first by Mallory Myers, Chloe Morgan and Ali Cummins.
All three singled to get on base. Cummins’ single RBI drove Myers home. Morgan scored on a passed ball.

The Lady Tiger defense shut Olive Branch down the rest of the game but scattered runs through the next three innings.
In bottom of the second, Myers scored again on a double RBI by Chloe Morgan.
In the third, Khalena Hentz scored on a sacrifice fly by Sydney Morgan for the 5-1 lead. Hentz singled to get on base.
South Panola scored their last two runs in bottom of the fourth inning.
Nautica Edwards laid down a bunt and beat out the throw to first before advancing to third and then scoring on a Cummins sacrifice fly to left field.
Chloe Morgan drew a walk and scored on a Dulin single RBI for the final run of the game.
Dulin led at the plate going 3-for-4, with one double, and two RBIs.
Other hitters for South Panola include Myers, 2-for-4, two runs; Chloe Morgan, 2-for-4, one double, one walk, two runs, one RBI; Cummins, 1-for-4, one run, two RBIs; Hentz, 2-for-4, one run; Morgan Parker, one walk; Sydney Morgan, 0-for-3, one walk, one RBI; Taylor Utz, 1-for-1; and Edwards, 1-for-3, one run.
The Lady Tigers will host Southaven today in non-conference action at 5 and 6 p.m. The team will be hosting their favorite teachers today.
Head coach Ashleigh Hicks also released the names the team will honor during Strike Out For Cancer (SOFC) game on March 28 against Grenada: Middle School-James Jenkins; Jr. Varsity-Johnny Earl Jones Sr. and Varsity-Bro. Larry Kilgore.
