South Panola fastpitch goes 1-1 to open season

The South Panola Lady Tigers went 1-1 in the Gulfport Tournament last weekend.
Friday, they defeated West Harrison 11-4 and Saturday lost to Oak Grove 3-2.

A three-run fourth and a three-run sixth inning by the Lady Tigers (1-1)  helped put a hurt on West Harrison Friday night.
The game was tied at four after a three-run second inning by West Harrison through the third inning.
A single by Chloe Morgan drove home Nautica Edwards, who ran for Khalena Hentz, who had singled to get on base.
Mallory Myers, who reached first on an error and stole second, advanced to third. Myers scored on a Morgan Parker ground out to take a 6-4 lead.
Morgan advanced to third then scored on a passed ball for the last run of the inning.
In top of the fifth, Haven Dulin bunted reached first on an error then scored on an Edwards sac-fly to center for the only run of the inning.
In the sixth inning, Chloe Morgan was back at bat and drew a walk and advanced to third on a Parker line drive to center field.
Taylor Utz walked and Madison Morgan replaced her as courtesy runner. Chloe Morgan scored on an Alli Cummins ground out to second.
Dulin singled, driving home Parker. Then Madison Morgan scored on a Sydney Morgan single for the final Tiger run of the day.
South Panola jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Both runs came on errors on the same play.
Myers and Chloe Morgan singled to get on base and both advanced a base. Myers scored on a catcher error as Chloe Morgan advanced to third and scored on an Utz ground out to short.
South Panola added two more runs in top of the second.
Parker reached on an error, driving home Myers who had singled and Chloe Morgan who had doubled to get on base.
West Harrison scored two unearned runs in bottom of the second to pull within one. West Harrison reached first on back-to-back errors by the Tiger outfield.
Darbi Smith pitched the complete game in six innings, striking out three of 30 batters faced. She allowed four runs, seven hits and four walks.
Leading at the plate was Chloe Morgan who went 3-for-3, with four runs, one double, one RBI and one walk.
Other hitters include Myers, 2-for-4, three runs; Dulin, 2-for-4, one run, one RBI; Parker, 1-for-4, one run, one RBI; Cummins, 1-for-4, one RBI; Sydney Morgan, 1-for-3, one RBI; Hentz, 1-for-1; and Edwards, 1-for-2, one run, one RBI.
Oak Grove 3, SP 2
South Panola struck first as Myers scored on a Chloe Morgan sacrifice fly in top of the first.
Oak Grove tied the game at one in the bottom of the frame.
Oak Grove scored two runs in bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead. Oak Grove’s Ashja Walker tripled and then scored on an Alex Perren single RBI.
Alex Perren then scoredon a Lauren Perren sacrifice fly.
The Lady Tigers loaded the base in top of the fourth. Parker and Utz walked while Sydney Morgan singles.
Makayla Ales pinch ranfor Parker. Tra’Meisha Toliver pinch ran for Utz.  Hentz hit a sacrifice fly to right driving Ales home.
Though two more players were in scoring position, the Lady Tigers were not able to get them home as the next batter struck out.
Smith got the starting nod on the mound and pitched three innings. She allowed three runs, seven hit and had one strikeout. Kaitlin Tidwell pitched two innings in relief, allowing one walk.
Myers led at the plate going 2-for-4 with one run.
The Lady Tigers were scheduled to play Water Valley last night but the game was cancelled due to wet field conditions.
They will return to action Thursday at Olive Branch in non-district action at 5:30 and 7 p.m.
