SP Tigers stumble in Grenada Classic

The South Panola Tigers traveled to Grenada Saturday and came away with a pair of tough losses in the Grenada Classic.

The Tigers opened up the day with a loss to Kosciusko as the Whippets broke open a 5-5 tie in the sixth inning with seven runs in the final two frames.
 South Panola grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first as Kyle Weaver and Mason Wilkerson drove in runs with Turner Rotenberry and Wilkerson delivering singles. Kosciusko answered with three runs of their own to tie the score at 3-3 in the second.
 Each team traded leads until the sixth when the Whippets plated five runs on two hits as Walker Yuille delivered the big blow with a two-run single to take a 10-5 lead. Kosciusko tacked on two additional runs in the seventh before South Panola added its final run in the bottom of the seventh.
Kyle Weaver paced South Panola at the plate with two doubles and a single to go along with two RBI’s. Cole Rotenberry also chipped in with a single. Anderson Wilder got the starting nod on the mound for South Panola and gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits while walking two and fanning two batters.
Luke Daniels followed with one inning of relief, giving up four runs on one hit while walking two and striking out two. Nathan Herron surrendered three runs on three hits in two innings of work.

Grenada erased an early 2-0 deficit with seven runs combined in the second and third innings to hold off South Panola in the final game of the day.
Both teams recorded eight hits on the day as Mason Wilkerson and Jacob Fennel led South Panola with two singles each. Cole Rotenberry, Turner Rotenberry and Weaver each contributed with a double while Chris Brown and Chase Durham registered singles.
Wilkinson, Brown and Ryan McCurdy all saw time on the mound for South Panola.
South Panola (7-12) will be back in action today as they travel to Columbus for a district battle.
