Mayor: party on July 3

By John Howell
Mayor Jerry Autrey has announced a fireworks show at the Batesville Civic Center Friday night, July 3, to celebrate the beginning of the Fourth of July weekend.

“I just want people to come,” Autrey said, after the city’s aldermen, during their June 16 meeting, agreed to allow up to $5,000 to match donations the mayor said he would solicit from corporate donors.

The city’s 2015 celebration of the Fourth with fireworks will be the first in five years.
At presstime Thursday, sponsors include First Security Bank, Heafner Motors, Zaxby’s and Treasurer Loans Batesville/Sardis with the mayor seeking more to cover music and incidental costs.

Music by the Class Act will begin at 8 p.m. on the Civic Center parking lot with fireworks to follow, Autrey said.

“Come out for fun, fireworks and music,” Autrey said.
