These East Central Community College baseball players received honors at the annual Spring Sports Awards Banquet held on the Decatur campus. Austin Towles gave up three runs on six hits in a six inning no decision as in Northwest Mississippi Community College 4-3 11-inning victory over East Mississippi Friday. The Rangers’ ( 33-17) season ended Saturday with a 9-1 loss to Hinds in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament in Eunice, La.
Towles finished his freshman season sporting a 4-2 record with a 3.05 ERA in 11 starts.
Amanda Ivy singled and drove in a run as Mississippi State (36-21) defeated Weber State Saturday in the Lafayette, La. region of the NCAA softball tournament. The Lady Bulldogs were later eliminated from the tournament by Baylor. Ivy hit .326 (44-135) on the season with five doubles, two triples, five home runs ands 38 RBI’s.
Chris Townsend went 3-for-10 with two runs scored and three runs driven in as Central Arkansas ( 27-22; 16-14) took two of the games from McNeese State to close out the Southland Conference regular season.
