BATESVILLE– Austin Cain, 79, died Sunday, August 19, 2012, at his residence.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Jimmy Cain will officiate.

Austin, born Jan. 20, 1933, in Brewton, Ala., to the late Ashley and Eller Bell Shell Cain, was the owner of Cain’s Water Well Service and a honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include: his wife, Frances Kiser Cain of Batesville; one daughter, Angie Cain Legge of Batesville; four sons, Alvis Cain of Pope, Randy Cain, Melvin Cain and Danny Cain, all of Batesville; one sister, Ethel Cain Hammock of Brewton, Ala.; one brother, Nelson Cain of Richton; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.– James Roy “Jim” Crouch Sr., 72, formerly of Batesville, died Friday, August 17, 2012, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held today at Dickins Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at Pisgah Cemetery, in Courtland. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

The son of James and Lucille Crouch, he was born December 25, 1939 in Batesville. He attended Mississippi State University in Starkville and received a Master of Science degree in accounting from Harding University in Searcy, Ark.

He worked for the U. S. Forestry Service as the forest supervisor of the Ozark St. Francis National Forest for 25 years, retiring in 1988. He was a specialist in Forestry Consulting and Governmental Affairs. He was active in the Arkansas Forestry Association’s “Log a Load” program for the kids at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, AR.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Russellville, the Noon Rotary Club of Russellville, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and the Society of American Foresters.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Crouch of Russellville; his son, Dr. James Roy Crouch Jr.; his daughter, Lou Anne Dunn of Ft. Smith, Ark.; three grandchildren.

LAVERGNE, Tenn.– Frances Irene Davis, 57, formerly of Batesville, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Services were held Tuesday, August 14 at Boulevard Church of Christ in Memphis. William Jones officiated. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Davis, born Jan. 30, 1955, in Sardis, to James Edward Lee and Irene Herring Buckner, was a retired teacher’s assistant for Memphis. She was a member of Boulevard Church of God.

Survivors include: two daughters, Tiffany Davis of Lavergne, Tenn. and Tara Sorrell of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, Kadrian A. Davis Jr. of Memphis; her mother, Irene Buckner of Batesville; three brothers, John Herring of Batesville, James Edward Lee Jr. and Charles Edward Lee, both of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sisters, Cynthia Lee and Debra Lee both of Milwaukee; her father, James Edward Lee Sr. of Milwaukee and two grandchildren.

CHARLESTON– Velma Dahl Goad, 85, died August 17, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were held Sunday at Newsom Funeral Home. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.

Goad retired from the Extended Care Facility and worked as a sitter. She was a member of the Jackson’s Grove Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by one son, Mike Goad.

Survivors include: four daughters, Sherry Bailey of Charleston, Bonita King of Cascilla, Jackie Pearson and Robby Griffin, both of Batesville; two sons, Donnie Goad of Charleston and Calvin Goad of Cascilla; three sisters, Elizabeth Thurman of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., Shirley Grier of Atlanta, Ga. and Sheila Jackson of Tillatoba; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
