Judge refers defendant to grand jury on meth charge

Judge Bill McKenzie referred two defendants to the grand jury during Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.

Clayton Pettit, 99 Norwood, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for manufacturing of meth and child endangerment. His bond is $50,000.

Michael Goforth, 206 Gay St., Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for felony fleeing and disorderly conduct-failure to comply.

He was represented by attorney Tom Womble.

He had old fines of $487 that had been due since November 2011.

The judge told him he could not be released on his $50,000 bond until he paid his old fines in full.

Charlene Smith, 115 Autumn, Batesville, had a case for simple assault dismissed after the affiant, Latoya Fondren failed to appear to prosecute.

Tiffanie Gatlin, 409 Mossy Oak, Courtland, had a simple assault charge dismissed after the affiant, Kristin White failed to appear to prosecute.

James Taylor, 4795 Eureka Rd., Batesville, had a trial set for June 6 after entering a not guilty plea to disturbing the peace.

Tamela Lewis, 407 W Dewberry, Sardis, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting (second offense).
The judge told her second offenders go to jail.

Lewis was convicted the first time for shoplifting in 2009.

“What were you told in 2009? Second offenders go to jail and you were told that,” McKenzie said.
She was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $1,124.

“Stealing is wrong, I don’t care how hard times get,” the judge said.

Phillip Burnworth II, 138 Lafferty, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting at Wal-Mart. He was fined $1,124 and told never to go there again.

Tanya Davis, 335 Hays, Batesville, was fined $395 for domestic violence-simple assault.

Alan Smith, 335 Hays, Batesville, was fined $395 for domestic violence-simple assault.

Jeromy Hodges, 107 Pine, Greenwood, was given time served for simple possession of marijuana. He was fined $420.

Michael Ballentine, E Lee, Sardis, had a case for simple assault by threat dismissed after the affiant failed to appear to prosecute.
He is being held for Senatobia.

Troy McMurry, 102 Lawson, Batesville, had a case remanded to the files for six months for driving while license suspended and careless driving.

Brittany Tucker, 209 Court St., Batesville, had a case for possession of marijuana remanded to the files pending good behavior.

Johnny Robertson, 47 Hawkins, Courtland, was fined $594 for no proof of insurance.

Shaneke Burdette, 114 Lawson, Batesville, was fined $514 for speeding and driving while license suspended.

Jimmie Ellis, 1655 Beatline Rd., Tunica, was fined $194 for no proof of insurance. He was given the lower fine after proving he purchased insurance after the ticket was issued.

Michael Richardson, 181 Sherwood, Batesville, had a trial set for May 23 for no tag.

Stephanie Jones, 203 Leonard St. No. C, Batesville, was fined $336 for speeding and no proof of insurance.

Rachel Mister, Campbell St., Batesville, was fined $145 for obstructing public streets.
