Judge refers two women to grand jury

Two defendants were referred to the grand jury during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.

Judge Jay Westfaul referred Brandi Yount, 106 Central, Batesville, to the grand jury for grand larceny. She is being held for Desoto County.

Tina Marie Bandy, 68 Jimmy Joyner, Water Valley, was released on her own recognizance and referred to the grand jury for two counts of uttering forgery.

Lawrence Caldwell, 201-B Patton, Batesville, was fined $673 for possession of paraphernalia and open container.

Kira Keisling, 117 Janice Dr., Water Valley, entered a no contest plea to possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and was fined $650.

Patrick Powell Jr., 286-A Humphreys, Crowder, was fined $1,529 for possession of marijuana, driving while license suspended, improper equipment and no proof of insurance.

Vallie Davis, 202 Curtis Dr., Charleston, was fined $624 for disorderly conduct-failure to comply.

Ezekiel Willie, 105 Everette, Batesville, had a simple assault case dismissed.

Elgin Lamar, 101 Tindall, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault. A trial was set for February 29.

Sabrina Barksdale, 27 Ramsey Trail, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to trespassing and was fined $395.
Commie Hart, 3209 Nash Rd., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to DUI and improper equipment.
A trial was set for March 7.

Harold Houston, 500 Armstrong, Batesville, was fined $1220 for DUI, expired driver’s license and careless driving.

Octavious Benson, 790 Davidson, Water Valley, entered a not guilty plea to shoplifting (second offense). A trial was set for March 14.

Tony Wilkins, 799 Belmont, Sardis, was sentenced to 30 days in jail for failure to pay old fines of $634 that have been due since May 2006.

Judge Westfaul told Wilkins if he paid his fines he could be released from jail.

Omah Jones, 278 E Ruby, Courtland, failed to appear to answer contempt of court charges for old fines of $1,337 that have been due since June 2011.

He was to return to court for sentencing.

Judge Westfaul issued a warrant for his arrest and ordered that Jones sit in jail til the next court session Wednesday.

Daniel Burns, 614 Carslisle Rd., Courtland, had old fines of $693 that have been due since January 2011.
He was told to have the fines paid in full by Friday or serve 30 days in jail.

Christopher McCollum, 2518 Belmont, Sardis, had old fines of $678 that have been due since November 2010. He told the judge he worked on a riverboat and was out of town a lot.

The judge ordered him to have the fines paid in full before leaving town again.

Cases set for trial

Cedrick Haygood, 4573-B Woodruff, Batesville, had a case continued for possession of marijuana in a vehicle, possession of a firearm-enhanced and public drunk.

Brondez Bradford, 108 Vance, Batesville, was fined $192 for simple assault.

Tickets
Roy D. Chapman, 170 Greenbriar, Courtland, was fined $370 for driving while license suspended.
