JV Tigers stage comeback for the win

The South Panola junior varsity boy’s basketball team overcame a 21-11 half deficit to win 32-31 over Grenada Friday night.

Grenada had the Tigers down 6-3 with 10:55 on the clock and took control to go on a 15-8 run to end the half.

In the second half the Tigers staged  12-7 run as Tiger Statavius Miles shot a three-pointer from the corner to pull the Tigers within two, 28-26, with 6:57 left in the game.

For the first time in the game, the Tigers took the lead on Kendell Turner’s field goal for the 31-30 lead with 29.1 seconds left in the game.

Keenan Hentz made one of two free throws for the Tigers’ two-point lead with 8.4 seconds on the clock. The Chargers were attempting a three-pointer and got fouled just as the buzzer went off sending Tyrin Jones to the free throw line for three shots.

Jones made his first basket and missed the last two giving the Tigers the victory.

Tiger scorers include Turner, 10 points; JeMichael Vaughn, six; Jaylin Webster and Hentz four each; Kamdon Edwards and Miles three each; and Desmond Lester, two.

The Tigers played in the Chickasaw Conference Tournament Wednesday and lost to Olive Branch 41-39. Olive Branch completed a half court shot at the buzzer for the win.
