Scholarship not in sights until recently

By Angie Ledbetter

With only a day left until National Signing Day for colleges around the country South Panola senior offensive lineman Sean Rogers, 6’1”, 255-pounds, never thought he’d be signing.

“It wasn’t until this year I realized that I could go out and play with guys that are getting recruited from bigger schools so it’s exciting for me.”

This year has paid off for Rogers with full paid scholarship offers from Northeast Community College, Holmes Community College and Coahoma Community College.

Rogers has visited Coahoma, Northeast and Holmes.

“I really liked Northeast. The campus was nice and the atmosphere was really good. I also liked all of the coaches over there and they told me I might play different positions even though I play guard.”

Even though Rogers really liked Northeast he was not making his final decision until he visited Holmes.
When visiting a school he looks for several things.

“I look to see if I’m comfortable at that location, how far it is from home and if I have a cell phone signal there. I have to make sure of that.”

When it comes to the football program Rogers is looking for different things.

“I want to see if they can prepare me to play better so I might be able to get noticed from some division one schools so I can further my career.”

Rogers plans to major in electrical engineering.
