ND downs Carroll on Beard’s free throw with time expired

Bradi Beard has had a busy basketball season. From leading the North Delta Junior High girls to a 21-1 record to starting for the varsity team, the five-foot-four freshman guard has done it all.

With time running out and her team trailing 39-37 to Carroll Academy Tuesday night, Beard hit the game-tying shot and was fouled on the play as time expired. Beard then went to the free throw line and calmly finished off the three-point play to give the Lady Wave a 40-39 victory. Beard finished the night with 11 points to go along with seven tips and six rebounds.

Sara Waldrip led the Green Wave in scoring with 18 points and six boards. Laci Dubravec followed with six points. Junior guard Linsey Hebert added three points to go along with five steals and five assists. Samantha Massoth rounded out the scoring with two points.

North Delta (17-8) will visit No. 1 ranked Delta today starting at 3 p.m.

Varsity Boys

In varsity boys action. Jim Tom Copeland poured in 14 points while Geri Lamm registered 11 as the Green Wave built a 34-12 halftime lead to ease past Carroll 56-34. The Green Wave improved their record to 11-7 on the season. Other scorers included Bateman Greenlee with eight, Taylor Herron added seven while Bryan Nickle and Tres Brasell had six each. Corbin Baker chipped in with three and Carson Bailey had one point.

Jr. High Girls

Meanwhile, North Delta junior high girls made short work of Carroll by coasting to a 49-11 win. Dubravec paced the Green Wave with 11 points while Beard, Jordan Pointer and Hanna Greenlee each had eight points. Charla Shae Darby and Hannah Waldrip followed with four points while Courtney DuGravec, Claire Gant and Hastings Neal finished with two. Katelyn Still did not score but accounted for six steals and five assists.

North Delta will travel to Lake Cormorant tomorrow for a pair of varsity games starting at 2 p.m before returning home Monday against West Memphis, Ark. at 3:30 p.m.
