ND holds fall banquet

Some major hardware was passed out Tuesday night as North Delta School held its annual fall sports banquet, honoring the junior High and varsity football teams, along with girls softball and cheerleading squads.

The evening began with the  school’s headmaster John Howell, Jr. handing out awards and certificates to the varsity and junior varsity softball teams. The Lady Waves placed five members on the All-District team while three were named to the North 1A state All-Tournament squad, Linsey Hebert, Samantha Massoth, Bradi Beard, Vicky Johnson and Laci Dubravec  were all chosen to the district team with Hebert, Massoth and Mary Jane Morrow selected to the All-Tournament squad.

North Delta,  coached by Brooke Turner and Preston Lawrence, finished with an outstanding 21-13 record while going undefeated in District 1-1A and a runner-up finish in the State 1A playoffs and  third-place in the overall Academy Tournament.

Other honorees include Best Defense Award went to DuBravec while Johnson garnered Best Offense Award. Beard received the Golden Bat Award for the highest batting average on the team at .436. The Golden Glove Award went to Hebert for her outstanding play at shortstop. The MVP of the North State tournament went to Julianna Morrow.

Next up was head junior high and high school football coach Lance Thomas who handed out certificates and individual plaques.

Freshman running back Chris Rodgers walked away with the team Most Valuable Player award after leading his team to a 8-0 regular season record and a North 1A Junior High bowl victory. Rodgers backfield running mate Chase Bruce was named offensive MVP while Sy Pritchard got the defensive MVP award.

The offensive linemen award went to Cody Jenkins while Kyle Devazier was named best defensive linemen. Most improved players were Luke Williams and Blake Sullivant while Bailey Guckert and Cody Gaines were team captains.

Finishing off the night was the awards given to the  varsity football team who finished the season with a 6-5 record. Jim Tom Copeland, Conor Ferguson, Bateman Greenlee, Bryan Nickle and Tres Brasell were named to the All-District team.

Five players named to the All-District Honorable-Mention list were Hunter West, Cameron Goodwin, Michael Magee, Clayton Cole and Corbin Baker.

The offensive MVP went to Greenlee while John Paul Keel was named MVP on defense and was also selected the district defensive Player-of-the-Year voted on by league coaches.

Carson Bailey and Chris Reeves were voted as most improved players on the team. Other recipients included: Goodwin, team captain; Ferguson, best offensive lineman,; Cole, defensive line MVP; Brasell, offensive back MVP; and Hunter West, defensive back MVP.
