Jr. High Lady Wave dominates Lady Colts

The North Delta Jr. Lady Wave defeated 2A Lee Academy but fell in a very close game to Marvell, Ark. before taking a break for the holidays.

The junior high Lady Wave dominated from the beginning against Lee Academy from Clarksdale December 8. They came out in the first quarter and out scored the Lady Colts 8-1 and continued that pace until halftime. The Lady Wave had a 15-4 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the game began to take a different turn. The Lady Colts began to get in the game, but the Lady Wave still outscored them 11-9 to lead 26-13 going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Colts picked up the defense and outscored the Lady Wave 12-6 but that was not enough to overcome their poor first half effort.

The Lady Wave defeated the Lady Colts 32-25 in the heated battle.

The junior high Lady Wave were 15 of 53 from the two-point range and two of 15 from the free throw line.

Leading scorer was Bradi Beard with 15 points, seven steals, three rebounds and one assist. Laci Dubravec, Katelyn Still, and Hannah Waldrip all scored four points. Hanna Greenlee and Mary Jane Morrow scored two points each and Jordan Pointer scored one.

Dubravec came in strong for the Lady Wave defense with 13 total rebounds, three steals and one assist. Morrow had seven total rebounds, six steals and one assist. Jordan pointer had six total rebounds, three steals and one assist. Still had six steals, six assists and three total rebounds.

The Lady Wave took on the JR Lady Eagles from Marvell, Ark. in a district game on Monday, December 10 at Marvell and came out with a very close and disappointing 25-23 loss.

Scoring for the Lady Wave were Hanna Greenlee, 9 points, 5 total rebounds, one steal and one assist; Beard, Dubravec, and Morrow, four points each; and Still, two points.

Morrow had six total rebounds and two assists. Beard had five total rebounds, one blocked shot, five steals and four assists. Dubravec had four total rebounds, one steal, one blocked shot and three assists.

At the half, the Lady Wave had a 13-12 lead over the Lady Eagles. Both teams scored four points in the third quarter.  In the fourth quarter, the Lady Colts outscored the Lady Wave 9-6 to win.

The Jr. High Lady Wave will return to action January 4 to host Deer Creek in non-conference action beginning at 4 p.m.
