HAIRE, Thomas Michael "Mike"
    
BATESVILLE – Thomas Michael "Mike" Haire, 57, died Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at St. John’s/St. Mary’s Catholic Community Church. Services and burial will be at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
     Haire was a maintenance supervisor II with the Mississippi Department of Transportation. He was a faithful member of St. John’s/St. Mary’s Catholic Community Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister, a strong Cursillista, an adult altar server and was a third degree Knight of the Father Tom Boyce Council. He enjoyed gardening and farming and was an avid competition cooking member of the Hairey Hawg Cooking Team.
     He was preceded in death by his father, William C. Haire Sr.
     Survivors include his wife, Belle Tidwell Haire of Batesville; one son, James Michael Haire of Batesville; his mother, Kathleen Wearing Haire of Batesville; five brothers, Dr. William C. Haire of Batesville, John P. Haire of Shelby, Donald E. Haire of Batesville, Timothy C. Haire of Cleveland and Joseph M. Haire of Batesville; one sister, Mary Pauline Rodrique of Senatobia and many nieces and nephews.
     Memorials may be made to St. John’s/St. Mary’s Catholic Community Church.


HALEY, Eva Louise
    
BATESVILLE – Eva Louise Haley, 94, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Batesville.
     Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Surrette Cemetery in Arkabutla. Rev. Clay Baker will officiate. Pate-Jones Funeral Home has charge.
     Haley was a homemaker and a member of Arkabutla United Methodist Church.
     Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie Bingham of Batesville; one brother, Lyle Sinquefield of Arkabutla; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

HALEY, Glenn Carter
    
ABILENE, Texas – Glenn Carter Haley, 46, died Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at his residence.
     Graveside services were at Buffalo Gap Cemetery in Texas.
     Haley, born in Batesville Sept. 24, 1960, to the late Jack Haley and the late Glenna Johnson Haley, was an electronic repairman. He attended South Panola Schools.
     Survivors include one sister, Barbara H. Elliot of Pope; two brothers, Scott Haley of Holly Springs and Mark Haley of Batesville; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles in Buffalo Gap, Texas.


HALEY, Lawson Wood
    
COMO – Lawson Wood Haley, 83, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at her residence.
     Services were Wednesday at Como United Methodist Church. Rev. Randy Owen officiated. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery in Como. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
     Haley, born Jan. 10, 1923, to the late William F. Wood Sr. and the late Parnell Wood, was a homemaker and a member of Como United Methodist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. W.C. Haley.
     Survivors include two sons, William C. Haley Jr. of Memphis, Tenn. and Michael W. Haley of Como; and one sister, Nelle Randell of Carlsbad, N.M.


HALL, Eugene O’Dell Sr.
    
SARAH – Eugene O’Dell Hall Sr., 77, died Saturday, August 26, 2006, at Quitman County Hospital.
     Services are today at 10 a.m. at Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge. Burial will be in Longtown Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Hall, born Aug. 12, 1929, in Waxsaw to the late Charlie R. and Jenny Bullard Hall, was retired from county road construction in Quitman and Tunica counties. He was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force Veteran of WWII.
     Survivors include his wife, Juanita Chapman Hall of Sarah; two daughters, Shelia Hall Douglas of Batesville and Deborah Hall Faust of Sardis; one son, Jody Hall of Sarah; one brother, Ray Hall of Hattiesburg; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
     Memorials may be made to Hollywood Baptist Church.


HAMILTON, Brenda
    
COURTLAND – Brenda Hamilton, 59, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at Desoto Baptist in Southaven.
     Services were Sunday at National Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Edd Lawrence officiated. Burial was in Memorial Gardens. National Funeral Home had charge.
     Hamilton, born June 22, 1947, to the late Benjamin Franklin Patterson and Helen Jace, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville. She graduated from Clarksdale High School and received nursing associate degree in Helena, Ark. She was a retired RN nurse with Kidney Care in Clarksdale.
     Survivors include: her husband, Leon Hamilton of Courtland; two daughters, Angela Joyce Haynes of Courtland and Kimberly Ann Manuel of Teasdale; three sisters, Dale Smith and Evelyn O’Conner, both of Pearl and Betty Mooneyham of Richland and one brother, Jake Riley Patterson of Sardis. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Batesville.


HANCOCK, Frankie Nell Langham
    
HOLCOMB – Frankie Nell Langham Hancock, 48, died Friday, February 3, 2006, at her residence.
     Graveside services were Sunday at Broom Cemetery near Coffeeville. National Funeral Home had charge.
     Hancock was a former emergency medical technician for eight years and a member of Holcomb Baptist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her father Thomas "Pete" Langham and a brother Thomas Wade "Buddy" Langham.
     Survivors include three sons, Don Patrick Dulin, Bobby Gene Dulin and Bruce Wesley Dulin, all of Grenada; her mother, Ruby Nell Langham of Holcomb; two sisters, Shelia Rhodes of Pasadena, Texas and Debbie Stephens of Holcomb; one brother, Wesley "Peanut" Langham of Dayton, Texas and five grandchildren.
     Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.


HANDY, Maud H.
     BATESVILLE – Maud H. Handy, 96, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were Monday at Mt. Olive M.B. Church. Rev. W.L. Nash officiated. Burial was in Shiloh C.M.E. Church Cemetery in Sardis. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     Handy, born Jan. 6, 1910, to the late Walter B. Harris and the late Melinda Bell, was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh C.M.E. Church in Sardis.
     Survivors include three daughters, Lillie Jones, Etta Avant and Gentry Bell Corner, all of Batesville; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.


HANNAH, Doristene Williams
    
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Doristene Williams Hannah, 61, died Monday, October 16, 2006, at the Sardis Community Hospital.
     Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church. Rev. Zannie Leland will officiate. Burial will be in Eureka Cemetery. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Home has charge.
     Hannah, born April 28, 1945, in Panola County to the late Ransom Williams and the late Arizona Hentz-Williams Mitchell, was a nurse and a member of Bethel Assembly of God.
     Survivors include one daughter, Katrina Jones of Burnsville, Minn.; two sons, Kelvin Hannah of Courtland and Jeffrey Hannah of Friedberg, Germany; two step-sons, Edward Robinson of Chicago and Kenneth Thomas of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Alice Ford of Courtland, Eloise Grafton of Milwaukee, Wis. and Margie Doyle of Batesville; one brother, Melvin Williams of Milwaukee, Wis.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


HANSON, Sonya Shermaine
    
COMO – Sonya Shermaine Hanson, 29, died Sunday, October 22, 2006, at North Oak Regional Medical Center.
     Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cherry Street M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in Mt. Level M.B. Church cemetery in Como. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.
     Hanson was a factory worker and a member of Cherry Street M.B. Church.
     Survivors include one daughter, Tanisha Tashay Hanson of Como; her parents, Rosie Marie Phillips of Como and James Jackson of Sardis; five sisters, Stephanie Hanson of Canton, Latonya Hanson and Nikki Phillips, both of Como, Tiffaney Phillips of Senatobia and Stacy Jackson of Sardis; three brothers, Marcus Phillips of Como, and James Jackson and Terry Jackson, both of Sardis; and her grandmother, Katie Mae Hall of Como.


HARDAWAY, John Kennedy
    
SARDIS – John Kennedy Hardaway, 45, formerly of St. Louis, Mo., died Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at his residence.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Walton Chapel C.M.E. Church. Burial will be in McIvor Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.
     Hardaway was a detail service specialist for Vanguard Car Rental.
     Survivors include one daughter, DeNetrica L. Johnson of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother, Annie M. Booze of Sardis; three sisters, Erma Booze of Sardis, Viola Booze of Memphis and Patricia Johnson of Senatobia; 10 brothers, Emmett Booze of Memphis, Milborn Booze of Portland, Ore., Turner Booze of Lee Sumitt, Mo., Earnest Booze and Lonnie Booze, both of Memphis, Sherman Booze of Grandview, Mo., Darnell Booze of Hunterville, Ala., Steven Booze of Horn Lake, Melvin Lamar and Howard Lamar, both of Sardis and three grandchildren.


HARDIN, Mary Etta
    
BATESVILLE- Mary Etta Hardin, 84, died Saturday, December 31, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services were Monday at National Funeral Chapel. Rev. Raymond Aven and Rev. Jimmy Massey officiated. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. National Funeral Home had charge.
     Hardin, born Sept. 13, 1921, in Vardaman to the late Lottie Harrilson Gilder and the late Oscar Gilder, was a member of New Hope Church of God in Batesville, a member of the Eastern Star and a homemaker.
     She was preceded in death by her husband Elias Hardin Jr.
     Survivors include one son Dorman Wells of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother James Herman Gilder of Tupelo; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


HARDY, Frances D.
     TEXARKANA, TEXAS – Frances D. Hardy, 71, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006. She was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Pope.
     Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Visitation will be 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home. Dickins Funeral Home has charge. Chapelwood Funeral Home also has charge of arrangements in Nash, Texas.
     Hardy was a homemaker and a member of Southaven Community Church.
     She was preceded in death by her mother, Veda Smith and brother, Kenny Ray Smith.
     Survivors include her husband Charles H. Hardy Sr.; two sons, Charles H. Hardy Jr. of Heber Springs, Ark. and Robert F. Hardy of Texarkana, Texas; one brother B.D. DuBois of Enid; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.


HARPER, Enda Yancey
    
SENATOBIA – Edna Yancey Harper, 92, died Friday, August 18, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were Sunday at Pate-Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Senatobia. Burial was in Bethesda Cemetery in Senatobia. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.
     She was preceded in death by her husband Ervin Jefferson Harper; and two sons, Cleveland Jefferson Harper and Tommy Lamar Harper.
     Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy L. Daves of Enterprise, Ala. and Dollie B. Dye of Batesville; 10 grandchildren; nine grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren and five great-great-great-grandchildren.


HARRELL, Terry Lynn
    
BATESVILLE – Terry Lynn Harrell, 40, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were Thursday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Terry Fudge officiated. Burial was in Cold Springs Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     Harrell, born March 5, 1966, in Marks to Shirley Coleman and the late Jessie Harrell, was a farmer.
     Survivors, along with his mother, include his wife, Janet Harrell of Batesville; two sons, Wesley Lynn and Shannon Ray Harrell of Batesville; one daughter, Dallas Paige Harrell of Batesville; one brother, Jason Harrell of Fort Worth, Texas and two sisters, Melissa Miller of Courtland and Patricia Harrell of Greenville.


HARRIS, Henrietta Irene Robinson
    
DETROIT, Mich. – Henrietta Irene Robinson Harris, 61, died Thursday, August 3, 2006, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.
     Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Maurice Hunt will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be in Rock Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Harris, born May 2, 1945, in Detroit, Mich. to the late Henry Beall Robinson and the late Henrietta Irene Norwood, was a member of the Church of the New Covenant in Detroit, Mich.
     Survivors include her husband, Danny Harris of Detroit; three sons, Sean Diaz, Jose Diaz and Kerry Diaz, all of Memphis; one daughter, Angela Diaz of Detroit and 13 grandchildren.


HARRISON, Frances Hardy
    
MARKS – Frances Hardy Harrison, 84, died Friday, August 25, 2006, at her residences.
     Services were Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Marks. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Rev. James Tidwell officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Harrison, born Oct. 25, 1921, in Birdie, was a member of Marks First Baptist Church and was a retired bookkeeper for Barringer Chevrolet.
     Survivors include two daughters, Nelle Pritchard and Jackie Harrison of Marks; one grandson and several nieces and nephews.


HAWKINS, Clarence Melvin
    
COURTLAND – Clarence Melvin Hawkins, 62, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Roy Hartzell officiated. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery in Courtland. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Hawkins, born July 22, 1943, in Lambert to Mattie Geneva Hawkins and the late George Benton, was retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
     Survivors, along with his mother, include one daughter, Sara Geneva Biffle of Courtland; one brother, Kenneth Randall Hawkins of Squaw Valley, Calif. and two grandchildren.


HAWKINS, Mattie Geneva Clayton
    
COURTLAND – Mattie Geneva Clayton Hawkins, 82, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at New Covenant Care Center in Dinuba, Calif.
     Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Hawkins, born Oct. 27, 1923, in Lorette, Tenn. to the late E.O. and Mattie Turner Clayton, was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husband George Benton Hawkins.
     Survivors include one son, Kenneth R. Hawkins of Squaw Valley, Calif.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.


HAWKINS, Reverend William
    
PASCAGOULA – Reverend William Hawkins, 81, died Monday, September 25, 2006, at Singing River Hospital.
     Services were Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa. Rev. Joseph Spence and Rev. Jimmy Smith officiated. Burial was in Macphelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. Heritage Funeral Home had charge.
     Hawkins, born to the late Herman and Alma Hawkins, was an ordained Assemblies of God minister and pastored churches throughout the years. He retired from Litton Industries in 1990.
     He was preceded in death by one son James William; two brothers and two sisters.
     Survivors include: his wife, Mary, of 61 years; eight children, Laura Cook of Griffin, Ga., Mary Hornbeck of Nashville, Bill Hawkins of Jackson, Emmy Kihyet of Vancleave, Carol Drews of Mobile, Dale Hawkins of Daphne, Ala., Bobby Hawkins of Pascagoula and Robbie Brown of Germantown, Md.; two brothers, Earl Hawkins and James Hawkins of Crowder and three sisters, Naomi Parkay, Shirley Arnold and Nan Ellis; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


HAYS, Dennis Ray
     TUPELO – Dennis Ray Hays, 44, of Tupelo, formerly of Batesville, died Wednesday, September 20 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
     Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 23 at 11 a.m. at Marks Cemetery. Rev. Duke Wheeler will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks has charge of arrangements.
     Hays, son of Babe Ruth Hays of Marks and the late A.B. Hays, was born in Batesville April 22, 1962. He was a baptist. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Rogers.
     Survivors in addition to his mother include one daughter, Erica Nicole Hays of Crowder; one brother David Hays of Littleton, Co.; two sisters, Eva Claire Penrose of Pensacola, Fla. and Nora June Meadows of Rugby, Tenn.; and two devoted friends, Rene Maynard of Tupelo and Joey Campbell of Marks.
     Memorials may be made to the First Marks Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 332, Marks, MS 38646.

Services for Grehn Heffner were Wednesday at Paradise M.B. Church. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.


HEMPHILL, Jessie Mae
    
MEMPHIS – Jessie Mae Hemphill, 72, of Memphis formerly of Como died Sunday, July 22, 2006, at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis from complications of an infection.
     Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 30, at 2 p.m. at Gilmore Street Church of Christ in Senatobia. Burial will follow in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
     Born in Como, she was the granddaughter of North Mississippi fife master Sid Hemphill. She spent 20 years in Memphis, and played the clubs on Beale Street.
     David Evans, who toured as a guitar accompanist with Hemphill, produced her first three albums — "She-Wolf," "Feelin’ Good" and "Get Right Blues" and encouraged Hemphill to start her professional career in the 1980s. Hemphill won the W.C. Handy Award for Best Traditional Female Blues Artist in both 1987 and 1988. In 1991, she won the Handy Award for Best Acoustic Album. In May, she made one of her last public appearances at the Memphis in May music festival with bluesman Richard Johnston. Still weakened by her stroke of 1993, she sang a little and played her tambourine.
     She left no survivors.


HENDERSON, James Otis Jr.
     MEMPHIS – James Otis Henderson Jr., 40, died Friday, January 13, 2006, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
     Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at New Hope M.B. Church. Minister Alvin T. Crook III will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Henderson, born Nov. 3, 1965, in Batesville, to the late James Otis Henderson Sr. and the late Janie Ruth Ellis Henderson, was a repairman and delivery man for Lit Refrigeration Company.
     Survivors include one sister, Heddie Henderson of Centerville, Ill. and one brother, Tony Henderson of Memphis, Tenn.


HENDREE, Sarah Ann
    
BATESVILLE- Sarah Ann Hendree, 57, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Services were Sunday at Macedonia M.B. Church. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. officiated. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
     Hendree, born Oct. 29, 1948, in Como to the late Cleve Conrad and the late Catherine Davis, was a retired teacher’s assistant for Como Middle School and a member of Cherry Street M.B. Church in Como.
     Survivors include her husband, Arbra Hendree of Batesville; one son, Adrell C. Hendree of Batesville; one step-son, Tremayle Walker of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five sisters, Margaret Conard of Como, Marilyn Conrad of Cleveland, Norma Brown of Magee, Arlene Bradley and Bertha Spencer, both of Memphis, Tenn. and two brothers, Cleve Conrad Jr. of Palo Alto, Calif. and Tony Conrad of Chicago, Ill.


HENDRIX, Lucille Oliphant
    
BATESVILLE – Lucille Oliphant Hendrix, 90, died Monday, October 16, 2006, at Graceland Nursing Home in Oxford.
     Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
     Hendrix, born March 5, 1916, in Panola County to the late John C. and Effie Cardwell Oliphant, was a retired vice-president of Hendrix Oil Company in Tunica. She was also a member of Goodhope Baptist Church and Hernando Eastern Star.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Uriel Hendrix.
     Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Lucille Hendrix Whitsell of Springfield, Va. and Sara Beth Hendrix Middleton of Bartlett, Tenn.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.


HENSON, Earline Hubbard
    
COURTLAND – Mrs. Earline Hubbard Henson, 81, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services will be held Saturday, February 11, at 11 a.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church with visitation tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Eureka Private Cemetery in Courtland. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Henson, born on November 14, 1924, in Panola County to Earl G. and Ossie Fowler Hubbard, was a retired clerk for TVEPA in Batesville and a member of Eureka United Methodist Church in Courtland.
     She was preceded in death by one son, Buford Shands Henson Jr.
     Survivors include one son, Tim Henson, one sister, Dot Hubbard Watson, and a brother, J.C. Hubbard, all of Courtland, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


HENSON, Joseph W. "Dusty"
    
LAMBERT – Joseph W. "Dusty" Henson, 75, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford.
     Services were Monday at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Rev. Ivory Sims officiated. Burial was in Lambert Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Henson, born July 8, 1931, in Quitman County, was a retired farmer and a member of the Pentecostal Church.
     Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Henson of Lambert; one daughter, Brenda Edwards of Como; four sons, David Henson and Marvin Henson, both of Lambert, Danny Henson of Carrollton and Kevin Henson of Tunica; two brothers, Billy Joe Castleberry of Lambert, William Henson of South Carolina, and five grandchildren.


HENTZ, Rodney M.
    
COURTLAND – Rodney M. Hentz, 66, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at his residence.
     Services are today at 4 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Burial will be in Eureka Private Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Hentz, born Jan. 20, 1940, to Mildred McCullar and the late Carl B. Hentz, was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Batesville and retired as postmaster of Courtland Post Office after 35 years of service.
     Survivors, along with his mother, include his wife, Jean Land Hentz of Courtland; three daughters, Amy Hentz Franklin of Batesville, Abby Land Hentz of Southaven and Amber Hentz Moore of Courtland; one son, Rodney Glenn Hentz of Courtland and four grandchildren, Kristen and Phillip Hentz, John Forrest Franklin and Wesley Moore.
     The family asks that memorials be sent to Eureka Private Cemetery or First United Methodist Church in Batesville.


HENTZ, Vivian Griffin
    
POPE – Vivian Griffin Hentz, 49, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
     Services are Sunday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. Alfred Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Hentz, born July 9, 1956, to the late Arthur Griffin and the late Nancy Lee Kimble Griffin, was a child care worker for Patton Lane Day Care Center and Hoskins Learning Center and a member of Liberty Hill M.B. Church.
     Survivors include her husband Carl I. Hentz of Batesville; two sons, Aston Shawn Hentz of Batesville and Carlton Hentz of Memphis; a Godchild whom she raised, Carmen Thomas of Chicago; seven sisters, Rosemary Shegog, Meledia Freeman, Sharron Ford, all of Batesville Frances Young, Pattie Griffin, Julia Black and Jackie Griffin, all of Milwaukee; three brothers, M.L. Griffin, Terry Griffin and Gary Griffin, all of Batesville and one grandchild.


HERRING, Claudy Glynn
    
CRENSHAW – Claudy Glynn Herring, 63, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at his residence.

     Herring, born May 24, 1942, in Guntown to the late William Henderson and the late Roxie Marie Ozell Rush Herring, was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church in Sledge and a truck driver for Stokes Excavating.
     Survivors include his wife, Nell Branch Herring of Crenshaw; one daughter, Kelly Herring Mabry of Senatobia; two sons, Keith Herring of Horn Lake and Josh Herring of Nesbit; one sister, Frances Herring McGee of Coldwater; one brother, Cortez Herring of Pope and four grandchildren.


HERRING, Ella Jean
    
SARDIS – Ella Jean Herring, 69, died Monday, October 30, 2006, at her residence.
     Services were Wednesday at Moore-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kevin Crofford officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.
     Herring, born Oct. 24, 1937, in Sledge to the late Clarence Collier Partain and the late Nellie Mae Murphy Partain, was a park host for John Kyle State Park in Sardis.
     She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Gene Herring and one son, Ronald Bruce Herring.
     Survivors include one daughter, Denise Moak of Sardis; one son, Steve Herring of Oxford; two brothers, John Partain of and Charles Clarence Partain, both of Byhalia, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.


HILL, Clara Keenum
    
MARKS – Dorothy Keenum Hill, 97, died January 17, 2006, at Quitman County Hospital.
     Memorial services were Thursday at Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Robert Clark officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
     Hill, born Sept. 11, 1908, in Durma, was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Tutwiler and loved to garden.
     Survivors include one son, William Earl "Bill" Hill of Vance; one daughter, Betty Jo Heleva of Port Charlotte, Fla.; eight grandchildren ; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

HILL, Russell
    
POTTS CAMP – Russell Hill, 89, died Monday, August 21, 2006, at his residence. Hill was born in Sardis, Jan. 26, 1917.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Moore-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ray Legge and Rev. Donald Worsham officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
     Hill, born to the late Dewitt Finley Hill and the late Gertrude Anna Helena Bates Hill, was a bookkeeper for Head Start, a Game Warden, farmer and a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was a former member at Hebron Baptist Church for 50 years and a deacon for 32 years. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
     He was preceded in death by his wife Glynda Jane McMinn Hill.
     Survivors include one daughter Dorothy Hill of Potts Camp; two sons, Bobby Bishop of Memphis and David Hill of Potts Camp; eight grandchildren and 13 grandchildren.


HINES, Euphia M.
    
BATESVILLE – Euphia M. Hines, 66, died Friday, October 13, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

     Hines, born June 11, 1940, to the late Gene Jackson and the late Mae L. Caruthers, was a factory worker and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church.
     Survivors include her husband, Frank Hines of Batesville; one son, Bobby Hines of Courtland; seven sisters, Genola Waggner of St. Louis, Mo., Marline Lanton and Mattie Draper, both of Sardis, Margaret Fox, Virginia Ellis, Brenda Jackson and Glenda Draper, all of Batesville and three brothers, Mark F. Jackson, James Jackson and Larry Jackson.


HOBBY, Jack W.
    
Former Pope resident Jack W. Hobby, 82, of Cordova, Tenn. died Sunday, September 17.
     He was retired from the Union Pacific Railroad and was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Hobby, and his son Dan.
     He leaves his daughter Jackie McCaskill of Cordova, Tenn.; his sister Jenny Pearce of Georgetown, Texas; and three brothers, Bill Hobby of Cedar Park, Texas, Pete Hobby of Cleburne, Texas and Ted Hobby of Tyler, Texas.
     Visitation will be held at Forest Hill South Funeral Home in Memphis on Wednesday, September 20, from 9:30-11 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m.

     Hobson, born May 11, 1962, in Marks to the late Geneva Carol Roper Tutor and Sherman Tutor of Batesville, was a member of North Batesville Baptist Church.
     Survivors along with her father include her husband, Joe Hobson of Taylor; one son, Marshall Blake Tutor of Batesville; three brothers, Barry Joe Tutor of Batesville, Ricky Tutor of Batesville and Mike Tutor of Missouri, and one sister, Janie Ard of Courtland.


HOLDER, Mattie Lee (Pat) Morris
    
OXFORD – Mattie Lee (Pat) Morris Holder, 88, died Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at Hermitage Gardens in Oxford.
     Services were Thursday, February 16, 2006, at Sardis United Methodist Church. Dr. Doyce Gunter of Tupelo and Rev. Jim Cox of Sardis officiated. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Moore-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.
     Holder was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church and a past member of Sardis Woman?s Club. She also served as Methodist Youth Fellowship leader in Crenshaw for over 20 years. She enjoyed doing needlepoint and crewel, and took great pride in her yard.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Holder.
     Survivors include one daughter, Betty Short of Sardis; one son, Robert Allen Holder of Sardis; one sister, Bea Orr of Como; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivy Pal Holloway.
     Survivors include one daughter, Sandy Holloway Patterson of Batesville; two sons, Roy Ballentine of Stewart and Eddie Holloway of Batesville; two sisters, Margaret Ann Putman of Mason and Rilla Mae Putman Aldy of Batesville; four brothers, Gregg Putman of Batesville, Wayne Putman of Oxford, and J.J . Putman and Dub Putman, both of Sardis, and seven grandchildren.

HOLMAN, Bill
    
OAKLAND – Bill Holman, 85, died Saturday, July 16, 2006, at his residence.
     Services are today at 11 a.m. at Persimmon Hill M.B. Church in Enid. Rev. T.A. Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be in Persimmon Hill Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
     Holman, born April 9, 1921, in Enid to the late Henry McInyre and Ada Bell Roberson, was a retired farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of Persimmon Hill M.B. Church.
     Survivors include four daughters, Earlene Hankins, Gloria Hampton and Annie Davis, all of Oakland and Ruby Holman of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sons, Bill Holman Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif. and Willie Holman of Plano, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 25 great  -grandchildren and two great  -great  -grandchildren.


HOLMES, Elnora Battle
    
Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Antioch M.B. Church for Elnora Battle Holmes, 64.
     Mrs. Holmes died September 14 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. The Rev. Christopher Townsend will officiate. Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
     Mrs. Holmes was born April 29, 1942, to the late Frank and Willie Josie Jones Battle.
     She was a personal care assistant at Fairfield Assisted Living, and was a member of New Destiny Baptist Church where she served as a trustee, Sunday School teacher, and on the hospitality committee.
     Survivors include her husband, Bobby Holmes of Batesville; two daughters, Alice Shaw and Charsita Battle, both of Batesville; two sons, James Arthur Battle and the Rev. Corey J. Battle, both of Batesville; five sisters, Janie Battle of Batesville, Cordie Swearengen of Memphis, Georgia Jones of Milwaukee, and Ruby Smith and Tressie Battle, both of St. Louis; two brothers, Davis Battle of Batesville and Willie C. Battle of St. Louis, and three grandchildren.


HOLMES, Kelvin Bernard Jr.
    
BATESVILLE – Kelvin Bernard Holmes Jr. was stillborn Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

     He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melvin and Hettie Holmes.

     Holvitz, born Sept. 22, 1934, in Beaumont, Texas, to the late John T. and Thelma Lipe Shankle, was a clerk for Kroger grocery store and a member of Enid Lake Baptist Church.
     Survivors include her husband George Holvitz of Pope; one daughter Donna Lynn Gianelloni Smith of Pope; two sons, John Gianelloni of Los Angeles, Calif. and Dewey Gianelloni of Batesville; one sister Cathy Shankle Kennedy of Pope; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


HOOD, Essie Glover
     LAMBERT – Essie Glover Hood, 85, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks.

     Hood, born Sept. 29, 1920, in Iuka, was a Baptist, seamstress and a homemaker.
     She was preceded in death by her husband James C. Hood.
     Survivors include one daughter Lynda Trusty of Lambert; one son James R. Hood of Lambert; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE – James E. Hopper, 69, died Sunday, January 29, 2006, at his residence.

     Hopper was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and a retired dispatcher for A.B.F. Freight Company.
     Survivors include his wife, Sue Wollard Hopper of Batesville, and one sister, Joy Hopper of San Antonio, Texas.

HORNE, Robert DeLain
     OXFORD – Robert DeLain Horne, 38, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, as a result of an auto accident.
     Services were Sunday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Anchor Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home had charge.
     Horne was a member of Taylor Baptist Church and was senior secretary in the Political Science Department at the University of Mississippi.
     Survivors include: his parents, William L. and Lottie Horne of Oxford and Jim and Barbara Phillips of Jacksonville, N.C.; four brothers, Steve Horne of Memphis, Dan Perez of Pensacola, Fla., Billy Bumgardner and David Bumgardner, both of Oxford; two sisters, Janet Knight and Connie Frye, both of Oxford; two step-brothers, Jimmy Phillips of Raleigh, N.C. and Charlie Phillips of Wilmington, N.C. and his grandmother, Ora Jones of Batesville.

HOSSENLOPP, Timothy George "Tim"
    
BATESVILLE – Timothy George "Tim" Hossenlopp, 56, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006. He died from pancreatic cancer.
     Funeral Mass was Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was a communicant, lector and Eucharistic minister. Father Edward Balser officiated. A military service will be today at 10 a.m. at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn., with private burial in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. on Monday, October 16. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
     Hossenlopp was recently employed as general manager of Charleston Industries, Inc. He was also employed briefly with Batesville American Mfg. as human resources manager and as a 30-year employee of Moog Automotive serving as plant manager in Batesville and in St. Louis, Mo.
     He was a 14-year member of the Batesville Lions Club, where he served on the board of directors for 11 consecutive years. He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, The Edward Dalstrom Award and numerous other Lions Club Awards.
     He was also an 18-year member of the Knights of Columbus and a fourth degree member since 1977. He was a Charter member and currently serving as Grand Knight of the Father Thomas M. Boyce Council #13502 in Batesville.
     He was preceded in death by his father, George Daniel Hossenlopp and two brothers, Terry and Joe Hossenlopp, all of St. Louis, Mo.
     He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Eileen Marie Craig Hossenlopp; one daughter, Jennifer Christine Hossenlopp Gehringer and husband Doug; a grandson, Austin "Bestest Buddy"; a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rose "Baby Doll" and two step-grandsons, Preston and Tyler.
     He is also survived by his mother, Esther Marie Kelly Hossenlopp of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Cathy Hossenlopp Helms of Louisville, Ky. and Mary Catherine Hossenlopp of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Jim Hossenlopp of St. Louis, Mo.; his mother-in-law, Mary Meer Craig and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and co-workers.


HOUSE, Johnny Quinton
    
BATESVILLE – Johnny Quinton House, 80, husband of Lilly B. Joiner, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
     Graveside services were Thursday at Mt. Liberty Cemetery in Water Valley. Rev. James Stewart officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     House, born Jan. 8, 1926, in Water Valley, to the late Thomas Edward House and the late Lucy Elizabeth Potts House, was a farmer and enjoyed gardening, fishing and raising farm animals.
     He was preceded in death by four brothers, Woodrow Dewey, Thomas House Jr., Clinton House and three sisters, Minnie Shankle, Earline Hollinger and Inez White.
     Besides his wife of 58 years, survivors include: two sons, Clifton George House of Batesville and Jefferson Davis House of Courtland; four daughters, Mary House of Courtland, Patricia House of Sardis, Johnnie House and Debbie Smith, both of Batesville; one brother Levertise House of Thaxton; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.


HOUSTON, Larry
    
Larry Houston, husband of Sally W. Houston of Batesville, died August 30 in Memphis. He was 63.
     He was an Army veteran and a member of Mt. Olive M.B. Church at Tillatoba, where services were held September 7. Burial was in Rocky Branch Cemetery. The Rev. Lawrence Matthews officiated.


HOWZE, Dolores Wynne "Billie"
    
SLEDGE- Dolores Wynne "Billie" Howze, 84, died Friday, September 8, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson.
     Visitation will be today from 1 to 2 p.m. with services to follow at 2 p.m. at the Sledge United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.
     Mrs. Howze was born in Memphis, Tenn., Oct. 15, 1921, to the late Jessie Lee Alexander and the late William Boyd Wynne, graduated from Central High School in 1938 and married her beloved husband, Harvey W. Howze Jr. the same year. They were married for 68 years until Mr. Howze predeceased her two months to the day on July 8. Mrs. Howze was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a long standing faithful member of the Sledge United Methodist Church, having taught Sunday School for many years and served on numerous committees in the church.
     Survivors include her children, Sharon Howze Fortner (Bud) of Jackson and Harvey W. Howze III (Carlene) of Yazoo City. Also she leaves her five granddaughters, Emily Howze Ford (Scott), Jennifer Fortner Morgan (Gary), Elizabeth Howze Morgan (Gary), Elizabeth Howze Watson (Horace), Mary Catherine Fortner Little and Rebecca Anne Howze Staines (Brian).
     Mrs. Howze was also truly blessed with two great-grandchildren, Anna Grace and Jeremy Morgan of Jackson.
     Memorials may be made to the Sledge United Methodist Church or to the Sledge Baptist Church in Sledge.


HOWZE, Harvey William Jr.
    
SLEDGE – Harvey William Howze Jr., 90, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, at his residence.
     Services are today at 2 p.m. at Sledge United Methodist Church. Rev. Mike Labasso and Rev. John Parker will officiate. Burial will be in Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.
     Howze, born Oct. 27, 1915, was a retired farmer, graduated from Sledge High School and Mississippi State University in 1937. He was a member of Sledge United Methodist Church and a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He served on the board of directors at United Southern Bank and served as chairman of the Board of Stewards of the Methodist Church in Sledge.
     Survivors include his wife Billie Wynne Howze of Sledge; one son Harvey William Howze III of Yazoo City; one daughter Sharon Howze Fortner of Jackson; two sisters, Catherine Gates and Louise Boyd; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
 


HUBBARD, Clifford Elizabeth Smith
    
BATESVILLE – Clifford Elizabeth Smith Hubbard, 85, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Sardis Nursing Home.
     Services were Wednesday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Don Howie officiated. Burial was in Batesville – Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
     Hubbard, born Sept. 14, 1920, in Courtland, to the late Ivy Clifford Branum Davis and the late Paul Darence Davis, was a restaurant owner and a member of Black Jack Presbyterian Church.
     She was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Franklin Smith and Homer W. Hubbard; two brothers, James Paul Davis and Lewis Davis; one step-daughter, Becky Vohs, and one granddaughter.
     Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Smith Cockrell of Little Rock, Ark. and Mickey Smith Nolan of Batesville; one step-son, Homer W. Hubbard Jr. of Leesburg, Va.; one sister, Carolyn Davis Henning of Batesville; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

BATESVILLE –  Mary Lee Hudson, 88, died Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

     Hudson, born Nov. 7, 1917, in Crenshaw to the late Lawrence Henderson and the late Estella Morgan, was a homemaker and a member of Second Concord M.B. Church. She was also a Church Mother.
     Survivors include three daughters, Rose Pride of Batesville, Elvator Hudson of Chicago, Ill. and Stella Vann of Inglewood, Calif.; six sons, Robert Hudson, Bob Hudson, Clifton Hudson and Lawrence Henderson Jr., all of Batesville, M.C. Hudson of Seattle, Wash. and Zeno Hudson of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Alice Lomax of Crenshaw; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

     BATESVILLE – Kent Hughery, 43, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at his residence.

     Hughery was born Nov. 6, 1962, to Annie Mae Clark of Batesville and the late Alfred Hughery Sr.

     Hughes, born Dec. 18, 1921, in Sardis to the late Jack Trammell and the late Sarah Stewart Trammell, was a homemaker and a member of Rocky Mountain Primitive Baptist Church in Sardis.
     Survivors include three daughters, Ardenia Hughes Roberts and Eva Cathey, both of Sardis and Doris Sutherland of Dolton, Ill.; four sons, Houston Hughes Jr., Billy Hughes and Woodrow Toliver, all of Sardis and David Hughes of Charleston; one sister Christine Sanders of Detroit, Mich.; five brothers, Reese Lowe and David Trammell, both of Sardis, and Earl Trammell, Earnest Trammell and John Ester Trammell, all of Detroit, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.


HUMPHREYS, Richard
     SENATOBIA – Richard Humphreys, 80, died Sunday, January 1, 2006, at the V.A. Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
     Services are Saturday at noon at Paradise M.B. Church. Burial will be in Paradise Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.
     Humphreys was a life member of Paradise M.B. Church and a retired construction worker.
     Survivors include his wife, Catherine Nelson Humphreys; eight daughters, Mattie Woodard and Annie L. Watson, both of Chicago, Ill., Ollie Hurt and Annie P. Hurt, both of Homewood, Ill., Odell Owens of Memphis, Tenn., Irma Greene of Millington, Tenn., and Rose M. Humphreys and Barbara Humphreys, both of Senatobia; one son, Richard Humphreys of Senatobia; one sister, Gracie Williams of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Raymond Jackson Sr. of Senatobia; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.


HUTCHENS, Robert Nole
    
ENID – Robert Nole Hutchens, 70, died Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at his residence.
     Services were Friday at Friendship Church of God. Brother Larry Wicker officiated. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. Robinson and Son Funeral Home had charge.
     Hutchens, born Oct. 17, 1936, to the late Dole Hutchens and the late Emma Gross, was a retired farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
     Survivors include: his wife, Carolyn A. Hutchens of Enid; four sons, James A. Hutchens and Robert G. Hutchens, both of Enid, Douglas W. Hutchens of Big Creek and Thomas W. Hutchens of Water Valley; two daughters, Janet L. Willis and Kathy A.
