Waddell, born January 2, 1935, was a past member the of Quitman County Farm Bureau Board, a member of Goodwill Church of God and a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Waddell of Marks; one son Randy Waddell of Little Rock, Ark.; two brothers, Alfred Wadell of Stark, Fla. and Jessie Waddell of Jackson; five sisters, Nancy Waddell and Judy Rico, both of Batesville, Lazelle Hancock of Chattanooga, Tenn., Chirstine Waddell of Orlando, Fla. and Dorothy Waddell of Jackson and one grandson, Jackson Sides Waddell of Little Rock, Ark.

Services were Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Cold Springs Cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Robert "Bob" Hickey officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Waldrop, born Oct. 20, 1951, to Lloyd and Betty Scruggs Gill of Sardis, was a member of First Baptist Church in Byhalia.

Walters, born on Jan. 12, 1918, to the late Estes and the late Estelle Patton Pritchard, was a housewife and a member of the Courtland Baptist Church.

Graveside services were Wednesday at Davis Chapel Cemetery. Dr. Doyce Gunter officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his mother Sadie Ward of Sardis; and one sister Rebecca McClanahan of Tallahassee, Fla.

Watson was a retired operations engineer for Local 406 of Baton Rouge, La. and a WWII Army Veteran.
Graveside services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at Beach Ridge Cemetery in Denham Springs, La. Rev. Rex Pittman will officiate. Visitations are today from 5-8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home and tomorrow from 5-8 p.m. at Seale Funeral Service in Denham Springs, La. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Allene Ferguson Watson.

Memorial Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Tchulahoma Baptist Church, 3150 East Shelby in Memphis, Tenn. There will be food and fellowship after the service at this time the family will privately scatter remains in a portion of the Mississippi River. Memphis Funeral Home had charge.

Watson a high school graduate of South Panola, the fall semester of 1964 she enrolled in Blue Mountain College and she later received her masters from Ole Miss. At the time of her death she was a disabled, a retired English teacher in the Memphis City school system, and was a member of Tchulahoma Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her dad E.E. Stephens and three brothers, Reginald Stephens, Xavier Stephens and Joe Neal Stephens.

Survivors include her husband Calvin Jones; her mother Billie Jean Stephens Sossaman of Batesville; one daughter Heather Watson Dominguez of Memphis, Tenn.; one son Marty Wade Watson of Wynne, Ark.; two brothers, Danny L. Stephens of Meridian and Felix Stephens of Oakland and two grandsons Dakota and Dalton Watson.

Weaver was a member of the Episcopal faith.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Burial is in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Twin Oaks Funeral Home has charge.

He was preceded in death by his son Shane Maese Weaver.

Survivors include one daughter, Kelly Weaver Mendez of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother Robbie Weaver Clark of Memphis, Tenn.; his step-mother Lorene Weaver of Harmontown; four sisters, Linda Weaver Scott of Southaven, Janice Weaver Cullither of Memphis, Tenn., Deborah Weaver White of Jonesboro, Ark. and Wanda Weaver Howell of Harmontown; one brother, Lonnie Weaver of Oxford and three grandchildren.

Wesley, born Oct. 31, 1935, to the late John Henry Wesley and the late Lena Black Wesley, was retired from Ford Motor Company in Chicago, Ill. and was currently working in the security office for S.A.F.E. Security Company in Grenada. He was a member of Viney Creek M.B. Church in Sardis and a U.S. Army Veteran.

Services were Thursday at Viney Creek M.B. Church. Rev. Ozine Thomas officiated. Burial will be in Viney Creek Cemetery in Sardis, Tues., Oct. 5, 2004. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge. Services will also be held tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with the wake from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Second Mt. Vernon M.B. Church in Chicago, Ill.

Westbrook was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, a Systems Technician for Batesville Casket Company, a Navy Reserve Veteran and a Mason.

Memorial services are Friday, Nov. 12 at Bethany Baptist Church at 7:00 p.m.

Whittaker, born Sept. 9, 1965, to Robert Rose of Batesville and Sharon Diane Monroe Rose of Hannibal, Mo., was a Baptist and was a cook at Applebee’s Restaurant.

White, born Feb. 19, 1961, to Hosey M. White and the late Oneavyer Anne Myers White, was a member of Crowder Baptist Church.

Williams, born May 18, 1915, to the late Hubert H. and Rilla Powell Williams, was the retired president of United Southern Bank of Sledge, a U.S. Veteran of WWII and a member of Sledge Baptist Church.

Services were Monday at Sledge Baptist Church. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his wife Ruby P. Williams of Sledge; two God-daughters, Candy Dillon Wells and Shelley Tierce Utz, both of Greenwood and his niece Helen Williams Brown of Meridian.

Williamson, born Nov. 16, 1938, was a homemaker and a child care provider. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and active in Grenada Relay for Life.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Hill of Grenada and Catherine Karrer of Allentown, Pa.; three sisters, Louise Williams and Doris Chapman, both of Grenada and Bobbie Jean Burnett of Russellville, Ky.; one brother James "Jim" Cook of Winamic, Ind.; and two grandchildren.

Williford, born Feb. 20, 1924, to the late Seab Williford and the late Hattie Anthony Williford, was a carpenter and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was also a member of Pope Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Phillip Williford of Pope and Clinton Burns of Olive Branch; two daughters, Sandra Joiner of Bossier City, La. and Pamela Ann Williford of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Pleasant Green M.B. Church in Water Valley. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Thomas Buckner Jr. officiated. Nicholson Funeral Home had charge.

Willingham was born Aug. 14, 1905, to the late Alfrod Carter and late Emma Ivy Carter.

Mrs. Wilson lived the majority of her life in Panola County where she was an active participant in church and civic activities. Known for her community involvement, she was instrumental in the establishment and subsequent administration of the public housing authority in Sardis.

Recognizing the importance of preserving local history, she was a member of PanGens and the Tate County Mississippi Genealogical and Historical Society. Mrs. Wilson compiled and published Panola County Mississippi Obituaries and Cemeteries of North Panola, as well as contributing materials to the Mississippi State .

Mrs. Wilson was an accomplished quilter whose work is included in the Mississippi State Department of and History. Many of her smaller quilts were donations to patients at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

For the past seven years, she was a resident at Kirkwood where she was well known and loved for her interest in the welfare of her fellow residents and volunteer work in that community.
Mrs. Wilson enjoyed a wide circle of friends and had a great loving interest in all of her extended family.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by a sister, Ellenor Moore of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a brother Robert M.P. Short of Sewanee Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Meredith and Jimmy Creekmore of Jackson; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Amanda Wilson of Birmingham; grandchildren, Dolly Creekmore Goings and James Hiram Creekmore Jr. of Jackson and Evan Robert Wilson of Birmingham; and three great-grandchildren.

The family received friends at Johns-Ridout’s Funeral Home, 2116 University Boulevard on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 5-7 p.m. and a memorial service was at the Chapel of Kirkwood by the River on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.

Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ruffin Grove M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Timothy Smith will officiate. Moore Funeral Home has charge.

Wilson, born Nov. 22, 1907, was a farmer and a member of Ruffin Grove M.B. Church.

Survivors include one son William McGhee of Crenshaw; nine step grandchildren; 30 step great-grandchildren; and 19 step great-great-grandchildren.

Wood, born April 30, 1931, in Vance, was in the U.S. Army and a member of Belen Baptist Church.

Woods, born Nov. 9, 1945, to the late Murray Lloyd and late Betty Jean Branan Brean, was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Worley, born Oct. 2, 1922, to Charles Henry Worley and Mary Tatum Worley, was a retired machinist from InterNational Harvester after 35 years. He was also a member of Friendship East Baptist Church and a WWII veteran while serving in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife Catherine Mertie Rigby Worley of Charleston; two sons, Charles O. Worley Jr. of Memphis and Van Holder of Springfield, Mo.; one daughter Donna Studdard of Memphis; one sister Fannie Pritchard of Charleston; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Wren, born Dec. 14, 1928, in Water Valley to the late Wiley Ward and the late O.D. Reed, was a retired custodian for Batesville Elementary School and a member of Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church where she served as usher and as a mother of the church.

Services were Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Chapel of Faith Baptist Church in Los Angeles, Calif. Rev. Louis Hall officiated.

Wright, born Dec. 17, 1938, to Rev. Zannie Leland and the late Gladys Trantham Leland, was retired from LACUSC where she had worked for 30 years in the medical field.

Services were Saturday at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church in Batesville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge.

Ms. Wright’s survivors include, Irma Dell Wright of Batesville, an aunt who served as her caregiver; her parents, Alice Marie and K. Smith of Memphis and George Fondren of Batesville; one sister Tina Loveberry of Memphis; and one brother Johnathan Wright of Batesville.

Wright, born Dec. 23, 1935, was a retired rural mail carrier and U. S. Navy WWII veteran. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Lambert.

Survivors include two daughters, Kelley Lynn Miller of Hinesville, Ga. and Caryn Rendall Cole of Anaheim, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Services were Saturday at Sardis Lake Baptist Church. Rev. Kevin Crofford officiated. Burial was at Sardis Lake Baptist Church Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Wolfe, born Apr. 9, 1983, to Otis E. and Renya Long Wolfe of Sardis, was a student.
