Jennifer Hargett Barefoot
CHARLESTON––Jennifer Hargett Barefoot, 36, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016 in Pope.
Services were held Saturday August 13, at Charleston Church of God. Internment was in Charleston Cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Barefoot was a lifelong member of Charleston Church of God and was a 2006 graduate of the University of Mississippi. She was employed as an education consultant for Educational Consulting in Charleston and CORE Learning of Madison.
She worked in school districts throughout Mississippi and was a National Board Certified teacher with a specialist degree in curriculum and instruction.
Survivors include: her husband, James Thomas Barefoot of Charleston; her children, Betsy Wolfe and Bentley Wolfe, both of Charleston and Marshall Bailey Allbritton of Grenada; her parents, Edward and Charlotte Hargett of Charleston; her brother, Shane Hargett of Charleston; her nephew Chad Hargett of Charleston; Aunt Rosemary Wolfe as well as numerous other aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Charles and Lucy Lavender; her paternal grandparents, Flynn and Frankie Hargett; and her Uncle Billy Wolfe.
Family request that consideration for memorials be The Gideon’s International or Charleston Church of God.
Betty J. Adair Bivens
MILWAUKEE, Wis.––Betty J. Adair Bivens, 72, formerly of Batesville, died Monday, August 1, 2016, at Colonial Manor.
Services were held Saturday at Liberty Hill M.B. Church in Batesville. Pastor Jacob Hentz officiated. Burial was held in Eureka Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Bivens, born May 9, 1944, in Batesville, to the late John Adair and Frettie Lee Lloyd Adair, was a homemaker and a member of New Paradise M.B. Church.
Wilburn Winford Cannon
BATESVILLE––Wilburn Winford Cannon, 83, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, August 12, 2016.
Services were held Monday at Dickins Funeral Home. Interment was at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Mr. Wilburn Cannon, born, August 23, 1932, to the late Norman and Zula Cannon, was a retired delta farmer and member of Crowder Baptist Church.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being outdoors exploring on his 4-wheeler, working in his garden and dominating local dominoes games at the Crowder Parts Store.
Those left behind to cherish his memories include: his loving wife of 66 years, Katherine Russell Cannon of Batesville; two sons, Garry Cannon (Martha) and Rickey Cannon (Teresa), both of Batesville; one daughter, Melissa Cannon Bolen (Kenny) of Batesville; his brother, Jerry Cannon (Carolyn) of Clinton; his sister, Yvonne Cannon Brown (Bobby) of Batesville; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cannon is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Zula Cannon and his sister Modean Brooks.

Joe L. Hankins
POPE––Joe L. Hankins, 83, died Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Merit Health in Batesville.
Services were held Saturday at new Providence M.B. Church in Water Valley. Pastor Albert Booker officiated. Burial was held in New Providence Church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Hankins, born March 31, 1933, in Pope, to the late John and Osha Hankins, was a farmer and a member of New Providence M.B. Church.
