Larry G. Little

HORN LAKE––Larry G. Little, 69, passed away June 6, 2016.

Mr. Little was born in the Mississippi Delta in Marks, but his parents later settled in Memphis, Tenn. where he attended school and went to college. He was preceded in death by his parents, John G. and Mary A. Little. 

He is survived by his wife of 46 and a half years, Pam Little; daughter, Susan Holtzclaw (Lyndon); son, Michael G. Little (Nora); son, John C. “Patrick” Little; grandchildren: Jocelyne, Chris, Emily, Nicholaus, Logan, and Jeremiah; sister, Kathy Eisenbraun; niece, Kaylyn Goode; nephew, Wade Goode; and his dog that he loved very much, Gabby.

 Mr. Little was drafted by the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. He was stationed in Germany and drove a fuel tanker to the Czechoslovakian border when the Russians invaded them in 1968. 

After his military service he became a truck driver where he had 32 years of safe driving without a ticket or accident.

 A visitation will be held from 12:30-2 pm on Friday June 10, 2016 with a funeral service to follow at 2:00. All services and interment will be held at Forest Hill, South on Holmes Rd. 

Dorothy Mae Milam

SARDIS––Mrs. Merle Partlow McCullough, 98, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016, at 10 a.m. in White Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pontotoc County, with Bro. Hal Johnson officiating. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Merle Partlow McCullough

Mrs. McCullough was born on May 1, 1918, in Plantersville, Miss. to the late Moman Whitehead Partlow and Will C. Partlow.  She was an active member of Plantersville Baptist Church for many years and also of Sardis Presbyterian Church.  She was a member of The Pilot Club in Tupelo and loved to travel and was always ready to go at any time.  She was a loving Christian lady who was always attentive to her family.  She loved to cook and was known for making sure there was always plenty to eat.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James McCullough, and her parents.

Mrs. McCullough is survived by her daughters, Becky Floyd (Sledge) of Como, Rosemary Dawkins (Jimmy) of Sardis, Millie Higgins (Ray) of Jackson, and Emmy White (Joe) of Birmingham, Ala.; one sister, Betty Jo Trammell of Tupelo; one brother, J.C. Partlow of Ft. Walton, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Brent Harding, Dr. Sledge Floyd, Jr., Amanda Overton, Megan Aldridge, Carter Higgins, Wade Higgins, Lewis White, and Meredith White; and two great-grandchildren, Graham Overton and Harris Aldridge.

Word Baker Patton

CLARKSDALE—Word Baker Patton, 86, a retired farmer,  died at his home Sunday June 5, 2016. 

Memorial services were held Wednesday at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Clarksdale. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Patton, born to the late Sidney E. Patton and Lucile Baker Patton, was a Veteran of the Korean War serving as a lieutenant. He graduated from the University of Mississippi and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and then went on to graduate from Memphis State University with a law degree. 

Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Joan Nance Patton of Clarksdale; son Word Baker Patton, Jr. of Batesville; daughters, Mary Patton King (John) of Lake Worth, Fla., Catherine Patton Butler (James) of Clarksdale; four grandchildren, Christopher Patton of Sunnyvale, Calif., Rebecca Patton of Batesville, Claire Butler of Clarksdale and William Butler of Memphis and two great-grandchildren, Callie and Macee.  

Elijah Sims Jr.

COMO––Elijah Sims Jr., 68, died June 2, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. 

Services will be held Saturday at noon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sardis. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. 

Ruby Dean Sullivant

SARDIS–– Ruby Dean Sullivant, 73, passed away June 7, 2016, at Sardis Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Independence Presbyterian Church with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Reverend Dr. Douglass Sullivan-Gonzalez will officiate the service. Interment will follow the service at Antioch Cemetery near Courtland. 

Ruby was born February 10, 1943, in Panola County, to the late Tom Henry Richards and Lilly Ann Shepherd Richards. 

During her lifetime Ruby worked as a custodian for South Panola Schools for 30+ years and was a faithful member of Independence Presbyterian Church. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Lee Hawkins; loving care giver and sister-in-law, Pat Sullivant, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Sid Sullivant, brother, Carl Griffis, and two sisters, Christine Johnson Ware and Cliffe Mae Bright.
