Thefts continue to dominate incident reports provided by Batesville Police Department, some coinciding with the weekend’s super full moon eclipse Sunday night.

But it was Friday at 10 p.m. when a black male subject came up behind a victim at Timberidge Apartments and snatched a purse and child’s backpack also being carried by the victim.
BPD Lieutenant Billy Sossoman’s report stated, “. . .(the) subject came up behind her and snatched at her purse and blue backpack. (She) stated that she tried to hold on but the subject punched her in the shoulder while hollering, ‘Let it go b—-.’

The report continued, stating that the subject jerked away the purse and backpack and ran back down the steps.

The subject was described as a young black male, short hair wearing a red shirt with dark jeans.

The purse contained the woman’s ID,  debit cards and cash and the backpack contained her child’s “school stuff.”

It was just a few minutes prior, at 9:57, when BPD Patrolman Mark Mills responded to a call on Calvary Street concerning a purse being stolen from a vehicle.

Mills’ report stated the victim was inside a relative’s house  when the purse was stolen from her unlocked vehicle.

“…When she  went to enter her vehicle she noticed that the arm rest in the center was open and her purse was gone,” the report stated continuing that the subject said she didn’t notice anyone around the area and doesn’t know who could have taken it. The total estimated loss from the purse and items stolen was $470.

Officer Nick Johnson’s report of Sunday, August 27 states that a green Craftsman push lawn mower was missing from a Noble Street residence.

The victim reported the lawn mower had been under the car port the previous day and tracks leaving the house going behind the neighbor’s yard began to fade. Estimated value of the mower was $100.

Stolen property was also reported from the parking lot of Merit-Health Hospital parking lot Sunday afternoon according to Patrolman Adam Campbell’s report.

The report stated, “. . . (She) visited a friend at the hospital and when she returned back to her vehicle around 6 p.m. she noticed her purse was missing from the passenger seat. She stated that she thought she had locked her doors.”

The victim reported missing EBT and debit cards and $20 in cash.
