ND and Lee outcome on hold til Monday

By Brad Greer
Lee Academy and North Delta rode out the lightening Friday night at Green Wave Field but in the end,  Mother Nature came out the winner as a weather delay postponed the District 1-AA contest with North Delta leading 27-23 with 11:17 left in the fourth quarter.

The game was originally to be concluded last night but another line of strong storms postponed the game yet again and will be made up Monday, October 20, at 7 p.m.

Lee threatened to take the early lead after receiving the opening kickoff by marching to the Green Wave 23 but turned the ball over as Hays Hudson  forced a fumble from Colt quarterback Michael Agostinelli with Michael Prine recovering on the Lee 37-yard line.

North Delta took advantage of the turnover by marching 63 yards on ten plays to grab a 7-0 lead on Hudson’s three-yard run. Two crucial third-down conversions kept the drive alive as Hudson ran 15 yards on a quarterback draw to the Colt 15. Earlier in the series, Hudson connected with Bailey Sullivant on a 14-yard screen pass to convert a 3rd-and- five from the Lee 42.

The visitors quickly answered on the following possession as Agostinelli plowed in from two yards out to tie the game 7-7 at the 2:03 mark of the first quarter. Alec Byrd keyed the drive with a 36-yard run to the Green Wave three-yard line.

North Delta dug into its bag of tricks to regain the lead at 14-7 at 2nd-and-goal from the Colt 10, Will Kidder took a pitch from Hudson and swept right but turned and tossed a pass to a wide-open Hudson who walked into the end zone for the score with Hudson Parnell splitting the uprights for the PAT.

Lee took a 15-14 lead on an Agostinelli-to-Will Fyfe nine-yard scoring pass with 1:21 remaining in the half. Tyler Stanley completed the two-point conversion with a pass from Agostinelli.
The Colts added to their advantage early in the third quarter as Justin Joyner hauled in a 40-yard scoring strike from Agostinelli. Sumpter Bass ran in the two-point conversion  to give Lee a 23-14 lead.

North Delta pulled within 23-21 at the 3:40 mark with an 11-play, 68-yard scoring march on Hudson’s one-yard plunge followed by Parnell’s PAT. Hunter Baker’s 11-yard run and a Sullivant-to Macen McGee 32-yard pass to the Colt’s four keyed the drive.

After forcing a Lee punt on the following series, the Wave found themselves backed up to their own nine-yard line but quickly escaped trouble as Hudson called his own number and raced 69 yards to the Colt 15-yard line. Three plays later, Kidder gave North Delta a 27-23 lead with an one-yard plunge with 58 seconds left in the quarter.

Lee ran four plays following the kickoff and faced a third-and eight from the North Delta 35 when the game was halted.
