Lady Tigers pull out a close one over Hernando

South Panola coach and team had to take a second and then a third look at the scoreboard to make sure it was right. They had taken down Hernando 51-50 in district action.

The South Panola Lady Tigers (8-4 overall, 1-1 district) took to the road for their second district game of the season Friday taking on the newly added team in the district this year, the Hernando Lady Tigers. 

South Panola scored eight points in the first quarter, 15 in the second, 14 in the third and 14 in the fourth. Leading in scoring was Jasmine Wright with 26 points. Wright also had six rebounds and one assist. She went two of five from the line.

Naporshue Strong added seven points, had five rebounds and one steal.  Alexis Smith scored seven points and had five rebounds.

Other scorers include Ty’Raveen Collins, six points, one steal; Sydney Morgan, three points, one steal; and Tracie Benson, two points, one rebound, one steal. Shanterica Hunt had one rebound and one assist.

Head Coach Ralph Stallings was very pleased with how the Lady Tigers played on the road to get their first district win.

Hernando 50

Senior R. J. Scott led the Tiger charge against Hernando with 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals in a 60-50 decision.

The Tigers (9-3, 1-1) only had a 39-38 lead going into the fourth quarter. The team turned up the heat to outscore Hernando 21-12 to claim the victory.

Also scoring in double figures for the Tigers were Keeon Miles 13 points, two rebounds, two steals and Josh Madison, 11 points three rebounds and two steals.
Other scorers include Donald Twilley, eight points, five rebounds, two steals; Kendell Turner, six points, two rebounds, two steals; and Cameron Brown, four points, two rebounds and four steals.

SP JV 26, Hernando 31
The South Panola junior varsity boy’s basketball team lost to Hernando 31-26 Friday.

The Tigers scored eight points in the first half but came back scoring 18 in the second half.

Ketrell Key led the Tigers with eight points followed by O’Bryan Goodson with seven. Howard Smothers scored six, Kentravius McMurry and Kenon Johnson had two each and Quentavious Poole had one.

The Tiger teams will be back in action tonight at home when they host Olive Branch at 5 in non-district action.
