ND Lady Green Wave crushes Delta in jr. high and varsity action

By Will Dickins
The junior high and high school North Delta girls’ basketball teams took care of Delta Academy Thursday night to finish Non-District play.  The junior high won 40-28 and the varsity won 56-26.
The Senior High girls ripped off a 30-point beat down of the Raiders winning 56-26.  Offense and defense were dominant throughout the game for the Green Wave.  Whether they were bringing pressure or sitting back in zone, Delta Academy could not find room to score.  On the other side, Ally Alford could not be stopped.
The game started with a few turnovers for the Green Wave who got their feet under them before long.  Faith Bollinger and Alford bounced off of each other for all 16 of the team’s points in the first.  F. Bollinger had six points while Alford had 10 with two three pointers.  The defense of North Delta showed a press with traps at the half court before switching to a 1-3-1 zone at the 1:30 mark.
The timely defense and confusing traps resulted in 21 steals as they continued their turnover-producing machine of a defense.
North Delta struggled to score in the second quarter only mustering four points.  Sayle Stennett and Isabella Morrow each had two points.
Luckily for the Green Wave, Delta Academy could not find a way to score either as they had three free throws in the second and did not hit any of their jump shots.  A total of four free throws were made in the entire first half with only one jump shot finding its mark in the first quarter.
This struggle to score resulted in only six points for the Raiders. The half came to a close after an interesting second quarter with the score at 20-6.
The Green Wave came out of the half with much of the same. Alford stormed back on offense in the third quarter with 13 points.  She was driving to the paint, pulling up at 15 feet away, and even made a three to pace the offense.
Overall, North Delta put together 23 points in the third quarter to pull away even more.  Delta Academy had no chance to come back, only scoring eight points.
North Delta cruised to the finish line on defense and a great night from Alford offensively, winning 56-26.
Alford ended with 23 points, three rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Following her was Faith Bollinger with 11 points, two rebounds, two steals, and three assists and Stennett with eight points, five rebounds, and two steals.
Other Green Wave scorers were: Ema Cay Donaldson, three points, three rebounds, two steals, one assist; Hannah Bollinger, two points, one rebound, four steals, two assists, one block; Payton Scott, two points, nine rebounds, two steals; Isabella Morrow, five points, two rebounds, four steals, and two assists; and Maci Kirkland, two points, two rebounds, one steal, and one block.

The Junior High girls started off the night with a victory over Delta.  Ally Alford and Faith Bollinger paced the Green Wave offense for the first quarter.  This built a 17-5 lead, and they never looked back.  Much of the same occurred throughout the game as North Delta double teamed in the corners or played a full court trap for most of the game.  After the first quarter ended, Sayle Stennett stepped up to handle most of the offensive scoring.  She hit a three to start things off before leading the team with 13 points.  From the three point shot to pull up jumpers at the key, Stennett could not be stopped.  The Green Wave would score nine in the second and 14 in the third before laying an egg in the fourth quarter.  North Delta had a 23-point lead heading into the final quarter and survived.  The final score was a closer one than most wanted with the Green Wave outlasting the Raiders 40-28.
The Girls host Lee Academy tonight starting at 3:30.
