Sheriff Reports: Residents reported receiving death threats

The Panola County Sheriff’s Department received multiple calls from Panola Countians who have been receiving threatening messages including death threats or are being harassed and stalked by individuals.
According to incident reports recieved by The Panolian from November 1 to November 18, residents have reported eight incidents of some type of harassment and six reports of assault including two domestic and two sexual assaults.
On November 1, a Highway 35 resident reported to Deputy Darryl House he and his family were receiving death threats from an individual.
According to the report, the suspect threatened to burn down the resident’s house and kill him and his family. Deputy House advised the resident to go to Justice Court and file charges.
November 2, Deputy Mark Allen took a report from a Mallard Point Road resident who stated an individual was sending him threatening texts stating he is going to hurt and kill the resident.
November 3, Crenshaw resident reported an individual flagged her down as she was traveling down Bishop Road and made an inappropriate comment towards her.
The Panola County Sheriff’s Office received 34 other reports from county residents requesting service from Panola County Deputies.
November 10
• Lieutenant Willie Harris spoke to a Goodhope Road resident who stated someone was harassing his son. According to the report, the individual filed a false report on the resident’s son which resulted in his son being arrested.
November 11
• North Oaks Hospital contacted the Panola County Sheriff’s Office to report a rape. Deputy George Renfroe responded and spoke to the victim who stated she did not want to make a statement and advised she was leaving Panola County and had no intention of returning.
November 12
• Deputy Britton Crawford responded to a house fire on Sims Hawkins Road. According to the report, Deputy Crawford spoke with a witness who stated she was in the bed asleep when she noticed the house was on fire.
Investigator Terry Smith was notified of the incident and is continuing the investigation.
• Hunters Chapel Road resident reported to Deputy Crawford she arrived at her rental property for a mold complaint when the tenant began shouting and cursing.
According to the report, the resident stated the tenant’s boyfriend went around back and grabbed a shovel while making threats.
• River View Road, Sardis resident reported to Deputy Allen a window was broken on the front of his home along with the lock on the rear door. According to the report, the resident hasn’t noticed anything missing.
• Deputy Maurice Market responded to Central Academy Road where the resident reported an unknown subject broke into her stepdad’s shop and took a tiller and other tools, totaling $600. The investigation is ongoing.
• Deputy Steven McLarty responded to Waldrup Road for a one vehicle accident. According to the report, upon arrival Deputy McLarty spoke with the driver who stated she just had an affair with a man and she left his home and was unsure of where she was.
“I could smell a strong odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from her person, her eyes were bloodshot and she was unsteady on her feet,” Deputy McLarty stated in the report.
An individual who stopped to assist the driver advised Deputy McLarty that the driver left a bottle of Crown Royal in his vehicle.
According to the report, the driver confirmed the alcohol was hers and was placed under arrest and transported to the Panola County Sheriff’s Department where she was charged with DUI first.
• Hunters Chapel Road, Como resident reported she and her landlord got into a disagreement and the police were called.
According to the report, the resident stated she was served a three day eviction notice and stated she was paid up on rent and needed more time to move out.
• Old Panola Road resident reported to Deputy Tim Campbell his neighbor has been harassing him and trespassing onto his property over the last several days and nights.
According to the report, the resident put up cameras around his property and has video footage of the neighbor opening the gates to the resident’s driveway, then walking to the front porch.
The resident stated his neighbor shines his flashlight through the windows during the night and constantly walks around his property.
According to the report, Deputy Campbell attempted to make contact with the neighbor but no one was at the residence.
November 13
• Deputy George Renfroe spoke to a Hughes Road, Courtland resident who stated an individual busted out the windshield to her silver Nissan Altima with his fist as she was leaving.
November 14
• Deputy Jeremy Hailey responded to Old Panola Road, Sardis where an individual reported she was driving on Old Panola Road when she heard a noise and noticed her sunroof was broken out.
According to the report, the individual was unsure of what hit the top of her vehicle.
• Levee Street, Crenshaw resident reported to Investigator Danny Beavers she was being stalked by two individuals.
According to the report, the individuals followed the resident all over town and then followed her down Springport Road. The subjects are unknown at this time.
November 15
• Deputy Bill Furniss responded to a domestic violence call. According to the report, the suspect left the scene while Deputy Furniss was in route to the residence.
Deputy Furniss went after the supsect and caught up to the vehicle. According to the report, Deputy Furniss initiated his blue lights and the suspect failed to stop until arriving back at the residence.
Deputy Furniss placed the suspect in custody and spoke to the victim who had bruising and scratches on her neck. The victim stated she didn’t want to press charges but was advised it was not her choice.
According to the report, the suspect was transported to the Panola County Jail for the charges of failure to yield to blue lights, improper equipment, domestic violence, aggravated assault and DUI.
• Rudd Road, Sardis resident reported to Deputy Hailey someone has been sending her messages on her phone calling her different names.
According to the report, the suspect sent her a message stating she was going to shoot the resident in the face and that the resident was never going to see her baby grow up.
• Deputy Darryl House was dispatched to Thornton Drive in reference to some stolen guns. The resident stated his daughter went into his gun safe and stole $3,375 worth of property.
November 16
• Sardis resident reported to Deputy Josh Griffin her boyfriend beat her up by punching her in the face.
According to the report, the resident stated the suspect was high on crack cocaine. The resident stated she let the suspect in her home not knowing he was going to jump on her.
• Patton Lane resident reported to Deputy George Renfroe some juveniles claiming to be vicelords were breaking bottles, making threats, trying to fight and egging vehicles.
• Murphy Ridge Road       resident reported to Investigator Danny Beavers he lost his tag somewhere between Orange Beach, Fla. and Pontotoc.
November 17
• Deputy Crawford spoke to a Macedonia Road resident who reported her stepson told her he had been fondled at a young age by his mother’s boyfriend.
According to the report, the suspect is a registered sex offender.
• Deputy Crawford responded to a residence on Sees Chapel Road for a welfare check. Deputy Crawford states in the report he attempted to make contact at the front door but there was no answer.
According to the report, Deputy Crawford went to the back door and saw what appeared to be a body laying on the floor.
Deputy Crawford notified dispatch of the victim and proceeded to enter the home. According to the report, the female subject was responsive and MedStat was called to the scene.
Deputy Crawford located a three page letter on the counter addressed to the victim’s family along with a list of funeral arrangments to be made, according to the report.
• Deputy Crawford assisted MedStat with a juvenile male that had suffered a self inflicted wound caused by a bow. The subject was transported by MedStat to Oxford.
• Freeman Road, Como resident reported to Investigator Beavers she was threatened by an individual for not picking up the individual’s child for school.
The resident drives a school bus with a ramp and normally picks up the child who is in a wheelchair.
According to the report, the child was ill on Friday and the mother didn’t let the bus monitor know the child needed to be picked up on Monday or Tuesday.
The resident stated she went to pick up the child on Thursday and was met by the supervisor over the bus drivers.
According to the report, the bus driver and mother got into a verbal altercation when the mother threatened to cause bodily harm to the bus driver.
The resident stated she got back on the bus and continued her route.
• Farrish Gravel Road resident reported to Deputy Crawford her family has been having a lot of trouble from the neighbors and continued to state that the neighbors have started putting harassing comments about the family on Facebook.
• Deputy McLarty spoke to a Como resident who reported  he arrived home from the drug store and a man pushed him and took his Loratabs.
• Coles Point Road resident reported his grandson was bitten by a light brown and white pitbull.
According to the report, the grandson didn’t require any stitches and the resident stated he didn’t want to pursue any criminal or civil charges.

November 12
• Individual fell asleep and ran off J. Q. West road.
• Individual driving under the influence ran off of Waldrup Road.
• Vehicle ran off the road, overcorrected and hit another vehicle on Goodhope Road. An injury was reported.
November 13
• Vehicle backed into another on Compress Road.
November 14
• Vehicle hit a deer on Hunter Chapel Road.
November 15
• Car hit a deer on Ballentine Road.
• Car hit a deer on Belmont Road.
November 18
• Vehicle backed into another vehicle on Highway 35.
• Vehicle hit a deer on Eureka Road.
