William Brinley “Bill” Boyles

PONTOTOC – William Brinley “Bill” Boyles, 68, formerly of Batesville, died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Services were held Saturday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Brothers Sammy Coker, George Steward, Wesley Stephens and Jim Varnon officiated. Burial was in Old Chesterville Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Boyles, born May 4, 1946, to the late Henderson Gregory Boyles Sr. and Pearl Blanch Cosby Boyles, was owner and operator of Boyles Tire and Auto Care Center of Pontotoc since 1987. He was a charter member of Chesterville Calvary Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday school teacher and deacon. He graduated from South Panola High School and the University of Mississippi with a bachelor in education. he worked at Sardis Luggage Plant, Atlantic Richfield, Sinclair Oil, M.K. Griffin Tire Store and Goodyear in Tupelo before ownership of Boyles Tire. 

Survivors include: his wife of 49 years, Louise Roberson Boyles; two daughters, Dana Boyles Martindale of Batesville and Denise Boyles Senior (Steven) of Pontotoc; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Morgan and Ivy Clair Senior; one brother, Joseph “Joe” Sidney Boyles (Joann) of Batesville; mother-in-law, Claire Sanders of Batesville; sister-in-law, Anne Roberson Avery of Batesville and brother-in-law, Fred A. “Sandy” Sanders Jr. (Holli) of Tupelo.

In lieu of flowers the family asks memorials be sent to: Pontotoc Food Pantry, c/o Ms. Mable McGee, 427 East Rd., Ecru, Miss. 38841.


Betty Sue Roberson Elmore

BATESVILLE–Betty Sue Roberson Elmore, 74, died Friday, July 11, 2014 at her home in Batesville. 

Services were held Monday at Batesville First United Methodist Church, with interment in Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

She was born February 20, 1940 to the late Ben Ed Roberson and Stella Louise Dalton Roberson.

She was an active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Courtland and loved bird watching and working in her flowers. 

Mrs. Elmore is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill Elmore of Batesville; one daughter Kelley Elmore Robison of Batesville; two sons, Billy Elmore Jr.,  and Scott Elmore, all of Batesville; one brother, Charles Albert Roberson of Victoria; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be sent to Shiloh United Methodist Church, 302 Hartzell Rd., Courtland, MS 38620.

Bessie Mae Smith Fite

BATESVILLE–Bessie Mae Smith Fite, 85, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at her daughter’s home in Greenville. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the First Baptist Church in Batesville, with burial at Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening, July 18, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home, who has charge of arrangements. 

Fite, born April 19, 1929 in Sledge, to the late Jim and Annie Mae Carver Smith, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville where she was involved in numerous ministries. She as an active WMU member. She also spent time leading Mission Friends and served as a teacher for the Boys Sunday School Class. She also owned her own daycare and was a member of the Panola County Home Economist’s Club. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe T. Fite.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jo Ann Fite Blackwell (Frank) of Birmingham, Suzie Fite Johnson (Frank) of Greenville; two sisters, Daisy Mae Gaines of Marion, Ill., Ola Mae Harper of Batesville; brother, Charles E. Smith of Batesville; three grandchildren, Brian Joseph Blackwell (Ashley), Jo Anna Beth Blackwell Pyron (Brian), Erika Beth Little (Jo); five great-grandchildren, Isabella Blackwell, Everett Pyron, Zoe Pyron, Zanna Little and Lilly Blackwell.

Michael Wayne Herron

WATER VALLEY – Michael Wayne Herron, 58, died at his home on July 11, 2014.  

  Funeral services are planned for 10 am Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley with Bro. Dan Dickerson officiating.  Burial will be in Forest Memorial Cemetery. Seven Oaks Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Born May 21, 1956 in West Memphis, to Sybil Cagle Herron of Batesville and the late Rev. Reginald Herron. He became a radio  technician during his service in the U. S .Navy and was stationed in Charleston, S. C. for several years. He later returned home and worked as a mechanical technician at Borg Warner for over 32 years and was a member of O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church in Yalobusha county.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his daughter, Brandi Nicole Herron of Water Valley; a stepson, Brandon Duke of Banner; three sisters, Joyce Tippery and Laura  Robison, both of Batesville, and Kathy True of Water Valley; three brothers, Pat Herron, Bill Herron, and Bob Herron, all of Batesville.


Hattie Lee Lloyd

COMO–Hattie Lee Lloyd, 89, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis. 

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at New Shady Grove M.B. Church in Senatobia. Visitation will be held Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Mrs. Lloyd was a retired Headstart cook. 

Survivors include: seven daughters, Barbara Mills, Patricia Austin, Mary Lloyd and Donna Lloyd, all of Como, Velma Malone and Hattie Towns, both of Senatobia, Bonnie Mays of Independence; two sons, Tommie Lloyd and Jimmie Lloyd, both of Memphis; one sister, Mary Taylor of Memphis; 38 grandchildren and 80 great-grandchildren.
