Ellis prepares for World Games

According to Ken Ellis, you are never too old to compete in the Decathlon.

That is exactly what the 64-year-old plans to do in the World Fire and Police Games in British Columbia, Canada this year.

The games will take place from July 31 through August 9. The Decathlon is composed of 10 events in a two-day period, August 1 and 2.

On the first day of the Decathlon, he will run the 100, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meter run. The second day is composed of the 100 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1500 meter run.

In addition to the Decathlon, Ellis will participate in the discus throw, javelin, pole vault, shot put, triple jump, 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles.

Not only does he work out, Ellis participates in other track and field meets around the mid south. the week of May 18 he participated in the Senior Olympics held at Mississippi College in Jackson where he won seven gold medals in the seven events in which he participated: triple jump, pole jump, javelin throw, hammer throw, discus, shot put and long jump. A pulled muscle in one of the jumps put him out of contention in the running events the next day.

In the Tennessee games, he came home with one gold, three silver and one bronze.
