Michael Leslie “Mike” Wilson, 63, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Born April 12, 1961, in Sardis, he was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, whose presence enriched the lives of everyone who knew him.
A service to celebrate Mike’s life was held on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the intermentat Black Jack Cemetery.
Mike dedicated much of his professional life to serving as a Material Lab Technician for the Mississippi Department of Transportation, a role that he approached with the same commitment and diligence that defined his entire existence. Beyond his career, Mike had a profound love for the outdoors, often spending time hunting and fishing. Cooking was another passion, where he expressed his creativity, bringing loved ones together around the dining table. He found joy in watching old car shows and tinkering on his treasured old truck, which stood as a testament to his hands-on spirit.
An ardent sports enthusiast, Mike had a deep-seated love for South Panola and Ole Miss football, embodying the fervor that comes with being a loyal fan. However, what stood out most about Mike was his devotion to his family. He treasured every moment spent with his granddaughters, Katie Beth and Allie Capwell, reveling in the joy they brought him. His family was his world, and he made it a priority to be actively involved in their lives.
Mike’s commitment to his community and faith was evident through his active participation at the First Baptist Church of Batesville, MS. His kindness, warmth, and genuine nature made him a treasured member of both his church and his local community.
He leaves behind a loving family that will miss him dearly. This family includes his devoted wife, Sandra Thompson Wilson of Batesville, his two daughters, Alicia Wilson Capwell (Brandon) of Pope, and Abbey Wilson McMahan (Richard) of Courtland. His legacy extends to his granddaughters, Katie Beth and Allie Capwell, as well as his brother, Jimmy Wilson (Kim) of Aurora, CO, and brother Paul Wilson (the late Molly) of Hattiesburg, MS. He also leaves behind a nephew, Randy Wilson (Angela) and their children, Lily Kate and John Luke Wilson of Cockrum, MS.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Murray Donald Wilson, mother, Betty Jo Mills Wilson, and three brothers: Larry Dale Wilson, Ricky Wilson, and Randy Wilson. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and their memories continued to inspire him throughout his life.
Mike Wilson’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and dedication. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him, a gentle reminder of the incredible man he was and the priceless memories he created with everyone fortunate enough to know him.
