George M. Tobias,  87, passed away at his home near Batesville on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022. George was the widower of the late Marilyn Brewer Tobias.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10,  at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville.

George, also known as “Yank” to some, was born on November 4, 1935 to the late Jay Tobias and Frances Bates Tobias in Memphis. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic. George, being an avid outdoorsman, loved to hunt and fish, and tend to his yard and garden. Being outside brought him lots of joy.

The family he leaves behind includes his two children, Rick Tobias of Germantown, and Debra Barnes Burrow of Batesville; two step-sons, Tommy Sigler of Horn Lake,   and Kenny Sigler of Southaven; one brother, Joe Tobias of Memphis; three sisters, Sue Jones of Covington, TN, Dorothy Hall of Atoka, TN, and Katherine Conners of Covington, TN; 7 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, George is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Brewer Tobias; one daughter, Teresa Halfacre; one brother, James “Bud” Tobias; and two sisters, Helen Busby and Marie Johnston.
