Jimmy Fred “Bud” Daugherty, Sr., 78, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 8, 2022, at his home near Sardis. He was the husband of Etta Smith Daugherty.

A graveside service to honor Bud’s life will be held at 3  p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Rev. Albert Beard will officiate.

Bud was born  Jan. 7, 1944, to the late Vessie Lee Daugherty and Ester Mabel Shepherd in Panola County. Before his cancer diagnosis, he loved his job as a gravel truck driver. He was also the proud owner of The Rolling Hills in Sardis and enjoyed seeing friends and meeting new people there. Bud enjoyed being outside, whether he was working on one his tractors or cutting grass. He was a proud grandfather to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he all loved so deeply.

The family he leaves behind to cherish his memory includes his wife, Etta Smith Daugherty of Sardis; two daughters, Becky Daugherty Tomlin (Albert) of Harmontown, and Pam Howe (Michael) of Batesville; two sons, Nathan Daugherty (Chasity) of Sardis, and Jerry Self (Tish) of San Marcus, TX; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by two children, Michael “Mike” Daugherty and Jimmy Fred Daugherty, Jr.; two sisters, Louise Beard and Faye Daugherty; four brothers, Buddy, J.D., Edward, and Durrell Daugherty; and one grandchild, Nelson Lee Stewart.
