John William Allen,  84, passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at his home near Pope.

Funeral services were  Tuesday, Sept. 14,  in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment  at Forrest Memorial Park.

His family received friends Monday evening at Wells Funeral Home.

John was born June 11, 1937, in Sardis,  to the late Lawrence Purvis “Pat” and Effie Belle Taylor Allen. He was a retired exterminator, having worked for Redd Pest Control and Pickins Pest Control over the years. John proudly and honorably served his country as a U.S. Marine. He enjoyed watching football and cooking. John also enjoyed a good game of dominoes and spades with his family and friends. Earlier in life, he could be found hunting or fishing.

John will be most remembered by his daughter, Debra Allen Magee (Johnny) of Pope; son, David Wayne Allen of Pope; two sisters, Molly Lorene Knight of Oxford, Betty Lou Conner of Oxford; brother, Bobby Lee Allen (Mary) of Jackson; two sister-in-laws, Ruth Allen of Olive Branch, Ruby Jean Oswalt of Pontotoc; two grandchildren, Haley Beth Pegueros (Bert), Tyler Buford Allen; one great-granddaughter expected to arrive in October, Bella Rose Pegueros. John is also survived by a dear friend, Mary Sutton of Courtland,  and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
