James E. “Jimmy” Gray, 82, passed away Monday morning, Aug. 30, 2021 at Tallahatchie General Hospital in Charleston. Jimmy was the widower of the late Lynn Ragon Gray.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Sept. 4, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the family receiving friends beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. The interment will be at Eureka Cemetery near Courtland.
Jimmy was born May 9, 1939, in Batesville to the late Edward Dow and Margaret Traywick Gray. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville. Jimmy retired after 20 years from the Corps of Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He loved South Panola Football and for many years, volunteered his time working in the concession stand. Jimmy also raised quail for a number of years.
Jimmy leaves behind two daughters, Laurie Gray Swindle of Courtland, and Angela Gray Rabin (Daniel) of Overland Park, KS; a son, Glenn Gray (Rebekah) of Courtland; five grandchildren, Eric Swindle, Dillon Swindle, Cody Swindle, Garrison Gray, Elliott Gray; and two great-grandchildren, Katherine Swindle and Leslie Swindle.
